Two home wins (Bern, Kloten) and three away wins (Davos, Genève, Zug) were the result of Saturday's five NLA games
SC Bern - Rapperswil-Jona Lakers 3:2Bern has still a small chance to finish on the first place of the league table at the end of thre regular season. Against bottom club Rapperswil-Jona Lakers a home win became a surprisingly hard job. The game did start well for the hosts with the 1-0 by Philipp Furrer who took a hard shot in a Bern power play. The guests won their last two matches and did react five minutes later with the equalizer by Reid who finished a rebound after a fast counter-attack. After 22 minutes Joel Vermin had the chance to bring his team in front again with a penalty shot but he failed in his attempt. Not even five minutes later the lead for the hosts came nevertheless when Ryan Gardner also used a rebound. With eight minutes left in the middle period the Lakers tied the game again. In another counter-attack it was Roest whose well-placed shot found the back of the net. Thiis result stood for a long time until Bertschy could score the game-winner for the favourites three minutes before the horn. The goal had to pass the video review due to the question if the puck was kicked in or not. Despite videos from several camera positions the referees could not determine if there was a distinct kicking motion or not and so the initial goal call stood.
Kloten Flyers - SCL Tigers 4:2The SCL Tigers were relatively succesful during the last weeks and now they had to travel to top team Kloten which lost its last three games.
In an even match it was Schelling who opened the score for the hosts. His long shot hit the post and from there it found the back of the net (9.). A minute later Walser had a nice solo and after going through three TIgers players he get the puck under the bar for an erarly two-goal lead of the Kloten Flyers. The result didn't change during the middle period but the last 20 minutes fully rewarded the fans for their patience. McLean (47.) and Di Pietro (50.) tied the game for the guests within three minutes with two almost identical plays - a pass from the right goal post and a Tiger standing alone in front of the goalie. Kloten soon regained its confidence and when Schellings back hand pass found Liniger (52.) they were back in front. In the last minute Bieber made the 4-2 final score perfect with his empty-netter.
HC Lugano - HC Davos 1:3In a game of two Swiss hockey powers it was Sykora who opened the score for Davos after 15 minutes. For him it was already his 20th goal of the season. After only 37 seconds of the middle period it was Hirschi who tried it with a hard shot from the right wing, almost standing at the blue line, and when the puck was deflected into the net the game was tied. Around "half time" Lugano's Daniel Steiner slipped and lost the puck in his own defending zone - a mistake punished by Taticek who brought Davos back in front. This goal should become decisive as Lugano found no way back into the match. Instead it was Peter Sejna who did the 3-1 for the guests with his empty-net try in the last minute of the regular time.
HC Ambrì-Piotta - Genève-Servette HC 0:3In this game Genève had the chance to cut the distance to Biel which is on the eighth and last playoff spot. The fans had to wait a long time for the first goal but almost with the end of the second period it was Rivera (39.) who found the back of the net for the guests after receiving a pass from behind the goal. At the begin of the last 20 minutes Simek increased the guests's lead (43.). Again Ambri-Piottas defenders didn't leave a good impression. Ambri-Piotta still had problems to create opportunities and so they pulled out their goalie already with still four minutes to play. The consequence was the 0-3 by Mercier. Genève now hast cut distances to Biel to four points.
Fribourg-Gotterón - Zug 2:4 The game between the two best teams of the league standings draw the attention of media and fans and so the BCF arena was sold out with 6800 spectators.
Dominic Lammer who had scored his first two NLA goals just the day before against Kloten, continued to play a decisive role for the EV Zug. He brought his team in front with two goals in the first period of the top game against Fribourg-Gottéron. At the begin of the middle period Julien Sprunger cut the lead to one (21.) but four minutes later Holden did the 1-3 after an assist by Lammer. In the following time Fribourg wasted big opportunities and had to wait until the 44th minute when Zug defender Helbling stumbled over his goalie and slipped with the puck over the goal line. The goal itself was rewarded to Plüss. In a close game Holden did the 2-4 with his empty-netter one second before the horn.
