The Adler Mannheim won the top game against Eisbären Berlin. München, Krefeld and Iserlohn are the big winners of the matchday as their home wins give them a better position in the fight for playoff spots. Cologne and Düsseldorf continue their downwards trend. Ingolstadt without problems against bottom club Hannover.
Adler Mannheim - Eisbären Berlin 5:2 In the game of the first two teams of the league table Adler Mannheim was able to draw level with Eisbären Berlin after a solid 5-2 home win. The game couldn't have started better for the hosts as they had a two goal lead after not even five minutes. Nick Dimitrakos (2.) and Yanick Lehoux (5.) had scored for Mannheim. At the begin of the middle period the guests cut the lead to one through Darin Olver (26.) but less than a minute later it was again Lehoux who scored the 3-1. Around "half time" Matthias Plachta was succesful with a penalty shot attempt and the home crowd had every reason in the world to be happy. In the last period it was a similar picture on the ice. First Berlin cut distances through Tallackson (43.) and then Mannheim decided the game when Ken Megowan had an empty-net goal (59.).
Kölner Haie - Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg 3:6Cologne stopped a streak of four consecutive losses against München on Friday. Two days later they received their nemesis Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg.
Despite a good start with a goal by Felix Schütz (3.), the home team didn't find any safety. Instead Wolfsburg was able to turn the game around completely in the 7th minute when Nathan Paetsch in the power play and former Cologne player Kai Hospelt - after a terrible pass from Sharks defender Björn Krupp - scored within just 44 seconds. In an even period this result stood for a long time until Mirko Lüdemann tied the game for Cologne with just one second left in the period. In the middle period Wolfsburg was the more active team and did go in front again with a goal by David Laliberté. With a men advantage Schütz scored the equalizer fpr Cologne (47.) but only 23 seconds later Matt Dzieduszycki scored for Wolfsburg after a won face off. Later in the game Patrick Pohl and Kai Hospelt with an empty-netter made the distance between both clubs bolder than it was the case on the ice.
ERC Ingolstadt - Hannover Scorpions 4:2Top team Ingolstadt received bottom club Hannover Scorpions. After both clubs lost on Friday, especially Hannover had to win to keep the playoff dreams alive.
The hosts were the driving force during the first two periods. After the early home lead by Tyler Bouck (5.) the game was tied by Eric Regan (18.). The middle period became decisive for Ingolstadt. Goals by Rick Girard, Thomas Greilnger (in the power play) and Jared Ross let them have a solid 4-1 lead around "half time". Later in the period Andreas Morczinietz cut the lead to two but the home win came not in danger anymore.
DEG Metro Stars - Straubing Tigers 1:3After a long negative trend the DEG Metro Stars wanted to start a winning streak at home but against the Straubing Tigers they had a terrible off-day. Despite being outshut 3 to 14 in the first 20 minutes the game was still goalless butt in the middle period Straubing made good the wasted chances. Markus Hundhammer (31.) short handed and René Röthke (38.) in a power play made the result comfortable for the guests. In the last period Düsseldorf found better into the game but the goal by Patrick Reimer (55.) came too late. Straubing saved the tight result and even increased the lead with an empty-netter by Sandro Schönberger in the last minute of the regular time.
Krefeld Pinguine - Augsburger Panther 5:1Home side Krefeld Pinguine had rather mixed results in the past but in the direct duel for playoff spots against Augsburg they showed their best image. A key factor became the power play as Krefeld used 3 out of 7 opportunities with more players on the ice while Augsburg wasted all its seven opportunities. Krefeld started with a great first period where they simply overrun the Panthers but the score was only 2 to 1 after 20 minutes. Pascal Trépanier and Boris Blank brought Krefeld two times in front while Mario Valery-Trabucco had scored the surprising equalizer for the guests. Late in the middle period the hosts scored another two goals by Trépanier and Denis Shvidki to decide the game. In the last period Boris Blank with his second made the result even clearer.
EHC München - Nürnberg Ice Tigers 4:2In the past weeks Nürnberg was the surprise of the league with wins against top teams Kölner Haie, Adler Mannheim and Eisbären Berlin but they still have problems against the "normal" ones. München, after a terrible 0-4 defeat in Cologne, wanted the home win a bit more in the Bavarian derby and opened the score through Jason Ulmer (8.). Around "half time" Rob Leask tied the game in a power play opportunity for Nürnberg. In the last period it was the same picture in a close game. First München scored through Mike Kompon (49.) but not even a minute later Greg Leeb scored for the second equalizer. When Eric Schneider brought his team in front for the third time (57.) the guests found no answer anymore. Instead Martin Buchwieser made the final score of 4-2 perfect with an empty-net goal in the last minute of play.
Iserlohn Roosters - Hamburg Freezers 5:0 Iserlohn made a big step into the right direction with its clear home win against the Hamburg Freezers. A power play goal by Jeff Giuliano in each the first and the middle period made the difference after 40 minutes. The guests tried a lot but were unlucky in front of the opponent's goalie. In the last eight minutes of play Michael Wolf, Sean Blanchard and Michael Hackert made the result a lot too high. As Hamburg used none of its six power plays Sébastien Caron earned a shutout for Iserlohn which now passed the rivals Kölner Haie and DEG Metro Stars in the league table.
