Shutouts by Vitaly Yeremeyev and Alexei Volkov, first hat-trick by Vladimir Tarasenko in SKA in the game day recap of Thursday 9 KHL games.
Amur 3-5 AvtomobilistThe game day started in Khabarovsk where Amur lost to outsider Avtomobilist who lost the chances to get into the playoffs. The away team from the first minutes tried to pull ahead and they did it with a Konstantin Bogdanovsky goal at 07:29. Mikko Mäenpää with 40 seconds remaining in the first tied the game. Avtomobilist pulled ahead again with Vyacheslav Seluyanov’s goal in the second. In 2 minutes Amur turned the game into their account with Martin Ruzicka and Mäenpää goals but with 30 seconds remaining in the second Andrei Subbotin tied the game again. Alexei Krutov and Nikolai Bushuyev goals in the last period helped the away team to go from the most eastern point of KHL geography with 3 points. Amur outshot Avtomobilist 42-19 but lost this game anyway.
Metallurg Nk 2-3 SO TraktorTraktor usually have difficult games with teams who are lower in the standings; this happened also in Novokuznetsk. Metallurg grabbed the lead two times with Alexander Bumagin and Alexei Kosourov goals but Traktor managed to tie the score with Anton Burdasov and Vladimir Antipov’s help. The game was decided in shootout series where Yevgeny Kuznetsov and Stanislav Chistov beat goalie Teemu Lassila who blocked 36 shots to lead Traktor to a victory.
Sibir 0-5 BarysSibir didn’t have a lot of playoff chances before the meeting in Barys this night and they lost the last after being blanked by the Kazakh team 0-5. Joshua Gratton opened the scoring early in the first. It was the first goal for Gratton in the Barys jersey. Barys extended the lead to 2 goals at 13:30 with a Fyodor Polishchuk goal who earned his second point in this game. Barys closed the game in the third period with 3 goals in power-play, shorthanded and in equal strength. Vitaly Novopashin, Dustin Boyd, Vadim Krasnoslobodtsev are the authors of the goals. Vitaly Yeremeyev stopped 40 shots and earned the second shutout this season.
Salavat Yulaev 2-1 SO SeverstalSalavat Yulaev was outshot by Severstal but managed to win the game in the shootout. Despite the advantage in shots Salavat Yulaev opened the scoring in the middle of the game with a Vitaly Atyushov goal in power-play. Niklas Bergfors’ second goal in KHL with 1:00 to play in the third tied the game. Former Severstal player Yury Trubachyov gave his new team a victory in the shootout with two accurate shots. Erik Ersberg stopped 40 shots in the game and denied 3 of 4 penalty shots in the shootout series.
Neftekhimik 2-1 SO SpartakThe same plot had the game in Nizhekamsk where the home team Neftekhimik faced Spartak Moscow. But there was one difference; in the second period Spartak took the lead in power-play with Stefan Ruzicka’s 18th goal of the season. With 2:12 remaining in the third Neftekhimik pulled the goalie Tuomas Tarkki and needed only 20 seconds to tie the game with help from Denis Arkhipov. In the shootout the Neftekhimik players were better and scored 2 PS from 2. Spartak goalie Sergei Borisov stopped 33 shots and improved his stats to 95.4% of blocked shots. It’s obvious that Borisov is the hottest goalie in the league.
Ak Bars 7-2 VityazArtemy Panarin played the first game against Vityaz after being traded before deadline. Ak Bars got an easy victory with 7 goals by Alexei Tereshchenko, Jarkko Immonen, Kirill Petrov twice, Alexei Morozov, Ilya Nikulin and Yevgeny Skachkov. But Vityaz began the game very active and opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal by Andrei Posnov. They also tied the game at 31:49 with an Alexander Fedoseyev goal in power-play but conceded 4 goals in the third and lost the game. There also were some fights in the game. Christopher Brennan, Nik Tarnaski, Jon Mirasty were included in the mess. Vityaz earned 111 minutes again this night.
SKA 8-3 TorpedoVladimir Tarasenko played his best game after being traded to SKA before deadline. In the first period SKA took a quick lead with three goals by Vladimir Tarasenko twice and Anton Korolyov. In the second the teams answered with goals. For Torpedo Martin Thörnberg scored and for SKA Tarasenko scored with a high shot and made a first hat-trick in the SKA jersey. In the third period SKA increased their lead with two goals from Petr Prucha, and one from Patrick Thoresen and Tony Mårtensson. In the end of the game Torpedo cut the lead to 5 goals with Vladimir Galuzin and Mikhail Varnakov goals.
Dynamo Msk 3-0 AtlantDynamo Msk clinched a playoff spot after blanking Atlant on home ice. In the first period during an 18 second span Dynamo got a quick lead with Denis Tolpeko and Grigory Shafigulin goals. In the second Mikhail Anisin had a chance to score his first Dynamo goal with the penalty shot but was denied by Konstantin Barulin. But Anisin scored it in the empty net with 4 seconds to play and closed it 3-0. Alexei Volkov with 19 stoned shots made the second shutout this season.
HC Lev 3-2 CSKAThe game day ended in Poprad where home HC Lev met CSKA. CSKA grabbed a lead in the middle of the first with a Tomas Surovy goal in power-play. In the second 20 minutes HC Lev turned the game during a 3 minute span when Tomas Netik and Jonathan Sigalet scored. Denis Parshin came from the penalty box where he was for slashing and tied the game at 53:37. HC Lev didn’t give up and three minutes later Tomas Netik with his second goal of the night gave the Slovak team the victory.
