Bern sends Kloten home with a package, close games in Langnau and Ambrì-Piotta, while Biel goalie Berra lets Servette attackers despair.
SC Bern - Kloten Flyers 5:0 In the match between two neighbours in the table who likely could meet each other in the playoffs, Kloten was humiliated by home side SC Bern. With one minute left in the first period it was Joel Vermin who opened the scoring for Bern with a nice individual effort, coming from the left wing and breaking through the defense to get the puck into the net with a lob. This was the starting signal for the hosts. At the beginning of the middle period a shot from close to the centre spot was blocked by guest goalie Rüeger directly in front of his own goal where Bertschy had no problem to deke out the goalie to increase the lead (22.). Late in the period Berger added another two goals for Bern. In the third it was again Rüeger whose block found the stick of an opponent. Almost with the second break the frustrating result made the Kloten players initiate a minute long mass brawl. If they might have intended to get a boost for their motivation, this didn't work out. In the last period SCB topscorer Ritchie made the 5-0 final score perfect with a power play goal.
SCL Tigers - EV Zug 4:3 OTNLA leader EV Zug lost two points in Langnau despite a 3-1 lead. With eight minutes played Zug defender Björn Christen lost the puck in the own defending zone with an unbelievable mistake and Di Pietro did not wait to use it for the eary game opener. Wozniewski tied the game with a slap shot a little more than a minute later. In the 34th minute Christen made good his first period mistake and turned the game around for the guests with a shot into the left corner where he left Esche no chance at all. Four minutes later Schnyder scored from a short distance after a good pass by Damien Brunner. Now the Tigers had to react and they did. In the last minute of the middle period Polak cut the lead to just one. With five minutes left on the clock Curtis McLean's pass from behind the net found Di Pietro who scored the late equalizer with his second goal of the game. Early in the overtime Polak - also with his second of the night - kept the extra point in Langnau.
Ambrì-Piotta - Fribourg-Gottéron 1:2 SOIn a rather weak match fans had to wait until the last period to see goals. Before even 5 on 3 power plays did not help to find the back of thet net. In the 48th minute it was Plüss who deflected a blue line shot by Loeffel to give Fribourg the lead. Now the hosts were playing more aggressive and tied the game only three minutes later through Duca who get the puck past former NHL goalie Cristobal Huet. In the shootout it was Afanasenkov who gave Fribourg the win with an amazing spin-around move.
EHC Biel - Genève-Servette HC 1:0During the last weeks the race for the eight place in the NLA standings between Biel and Genève was one of the major attractions of the league. Now both teams met each other and Biel earned the home win and therefore the three-point advantage over Servette with only one goal scored by Clarence Kparghai into the right corner shortly before the end of the first period. While Biel was defending heroical, Genève again and again was stopped by EHC goalie Reto Berra who earned his seventh shutout this season with spectacular saves.
