KHL starts the last part of regular season

KHL regular season resumed this Wednesday with 10 games. The weirdest player of all Russian junior teams Anton Ivanyuzhenkov made his KHL debut.
Metallurg Nk 4-1 YugraThe game day started in Novokuznetsk where Metallurg beats Yugra 4-1. In the middle of the first period the home team opened the scoring with a one-timer by Dmitry Kagarlitsky. At 25:52 Alexander Bumagin showed the Yugra defense how to play in front of the net and made it 2-0 in power-play. To the end of the second the teams changed with goals. First Alexei Kosourov increased the lead to 3-goal but Yevgeny Fyodorov managed to cut their lead with 1:16 seconds remaining. In the last third of the game Randy Robitaille closed the game with an accurate shot at 57:00. Metallurg Nk is still trying to get Yugra which is going 8th in the East, now these teams have a 6 point difference and 5 games to play.
Barys 2-5 AvangardBarys and Avangard played in Astana the game for the 5th place at the East. In the end of the first Sergei Gusev and Alexander Perezhogin gave the Omsk team a 2-goal lead. Barys managed to tie the game until 51:44 when Jiri Novotny used a pass from Lukas Kaspar in power-play. First Barys goal was scored by Kevin Dallman, who now has 18 goals this season. During a 3-minute span from 56:35 to 59:32 Avangard scored three times with help by Perezhogin again, Averin and Ivanov to sail from Astana with three points.
Sibir 3-4 Metallurg MgSibir started the last home series of the season with a loss against Metallurg Mg. After a goalless first period the teams scored 6 times in the second. First Sibir pulled ahead twice, Viktor Alexandrov in power- play opened the scoring, 38 seconds later Anton But tied the game, and then Vyacheslav Solodukhin gave Sibir again a lead. Sergei Mozyakin, Lasse Kukkonen and Yaroslav Kosov scored to the end of the second to make it 4-2 in favour of Metallurg. Sibir managed only to score one time in the third when Maxim Krivonozhkin used a pass from Alexander Chernikov.
Ak Bars 2–3 Dynamo MskOne of the most interesting games was played in Kazan where local Ak Bars faced with Dynamo Moscow. Marek Kvapil opened the scoring in the middle of the first with Denis Kulyash in the penalty box for tripping. At 34:49 Kvapil scored again, and Dmitry Pestunov made the his second assist this night. With 52 seconds to play in the second Danis Zaripov cut the lead of the visitors. In the third Kirill Petrov tied the game, but d-man Igor Shchadilov gave a pass from Leonid Komarov to lead Dynamo to a victory over Ak Bars at 56:23.
Atlant 1–0 SO SeverstalThe games between Atlant and Severstal managed to be one of the most boring of this KHL season. This night teams haven’t scored in regulation and overtime. Konstantin Barulin stoned 31 shots and earned his fifth shutout this season, while his opponent from Severstal Vasily Koshechkin saved only 29 but his 6th season shutout helped him to become the league leader in this statistical aspect. The game was decided only in the 6th round of the shootout series when Dmitry Upper overplayed Koshechkin and Barulin stopped Alexei Tsvetkov. This win helped Atlant to get closer to Dinamo Minsk and Severstal in the conference standings. These teams will define the 4th-6th places in the West.
Vityaz 2–4 SpartakBefore this game some betting sites did get it off from their business due to rumors that Vityaz will sell this game to Spartak. The most surprising moment happened when player of Russian Knights (Vityaz team in MHL) Anton Ivanyuzhenkov was called into line-up. If you had seen his game for a one time you will be shocked how this guy is playing? How he was in Russian Junior team at WJC in Crimmitschau? Answer is he’s a protégée of his father who had a bandit past and now is one of the officials in the Russian Hockey Federation.
What to say about the game? After the first it was 1-1. Ivan Baranka opened it in power-play, then another d-man Alexei Troshchinsky tied the game. Stefan Ruzicka with his 21st goal of the season pulled Spartak ahead at 33:44. Baranka with his 2nd goal of the night made it 1-3. Nikolai Bogomolov who played last Saturday at MHL Challenge Cup in Magnitogorsk cut the lead of Spartak with his first KHL goal. The game was closed when Alexander Budkin fired after a pass from Mikhail Yunkov.
Neftekhimik 3–1 TorpedoOleg Kvasha's two goals lead Neftekhimik to a surprising win over Torpedo. The home team did get a quick lead to the middle of the first. Nikolai Belov with assists from Oskar Osala and Yegor Milovzorov made it 1-0 at 05:37. 4 minutes later Oleg Kvasha beat Nikita Bespalov during the realization of penalty shot. The only action that was made by Torpedo was the goal of Robert Nilsson. Kvasha with an empty-net goal closed the game for the final score of 3 to 1.
SKA 2–1 Dinamo RigaSKA beats Latvian Dinamo Riga 2-1 in a tight game. It was only 23 seconds of Dinamo power-play when Yevgeny Artyukhin got a puck and in a breakaway beat Maris Jucers. For Artyukhin it was the 4th shorthanded goal and the 16th goal in total of the season. In the second period it was time for Dinamo to score? Fredrik Warg added the puck to the net after their power-play ended. The game was decided in the third when Viktor Tikhonov made a low shot from the faceoff circle.
CSKA 3–5 TraktorOne of the most focusing game was played in Moscow where CSKA faced Traktor. When Spartak Moscow fans were interested in CSKA's loss, because the fight for an 8th place in the West. SKA fans waited for a CSKA success because Traktor and SKA battled for the win in Kontinent Cup road. CSKA played well first 25 minutes when they managed to make a score 3-1 with Alexei Badyukov, Denis Parshin and Niklas Persson goals. Traktor scored only one time when Petri Kontiola was first on the rebound after powerful Alexander Ryazantsev shot. Traktor used two breakaways to tie the game in the middle of the game. First time Andrei Popov was only one; later Yevgeny Kuznetsov dished a pass to Stanislav Chistov. Kuznetsov scored another game-winning goal after finishing nice pass from Jan Bulis. Kontiola closed the game with 1:34 remaining with a powerful high shot. After this CSKA loss the battle for the 8th place at the West became more interesting, and when in this battle involved two arch-rivals.
HC Lev 1–2 SO AvtomobilistHC Lev started the last home series in their first KHL season with a shootout loss against East outsider Avtomobilist. The Slovak team opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal by Emil Lundberg at 35:53. Denis Abdullin used a pass from Dmitry Tsyganov to tie the game at 51:42. In shootout series Denis Abdullin and Stepan Novotny decided the winner of the game. If Novotny used only one of two attempts, Abdullin was accurated both times and led Avtomobilist to a victory.
