Djurgården heading for relegation round?

21 Feb 2012 | Fredrik Pålsson

With six rounds left to play the classic club Djurgården is in trouble and seems to be heading for the relegation round.

Växjö - MoDo 4-1

Växjö took an important win against MoDo and went pass MoDo and over the playoff line. MoDo took the lead in the first but Växjö came back in the second period when Tomi Kallio turned the game around with two goals. The second one goal was luckily after a lucky bounce in the boards gave Kallio an open net. Liam Reddox added 3-1 in the third before 4-1 came on the open net in the last minute.

AIK - Frölunda 0-1 SO

The game between AIK and Frölunda was scoreless. But it was dramatic last two minutes of regular time when Christian Bäckman got hooking penalty at 18:28. Both Bäckman and P-J Axelsson was given misconduct penalties for protesting. Just eight seconds later AIK got an penalty shot by Rudslätt missed it. AIK had some more chances on the power play but the game went to overtime and penalty shootout. In the shootout Fredrik Pettersson scored the game winner for Frölunda.

Färjestad - Djurgården 3-0

Färjestad defeated Djurgården and should safe for a playoff spot now. Djurgården on the other side is in big problem and more and more looks like a team for the relegation round. Färjestad was in full control of the game and scored one goal in each period. The first line scored all three goals and Christian Berglund and Patrik Lundh both had one goal and one assist. Christopher Nihlstrop only had to do 16 saves for the shutout.

Linköping - Brynäs 5-2

The game got an explosive start with two goals within the first three minutes when Robin Figren first made it 1-0 and Simon Löf tied the game. Andreas Jämtin gave LHC the lead again on a power play in the second but Brynäs tied the game again early in the third when Jakob Silfverberg scored. But it only took three minutes for Linköping to score two goals to restore the lead after goals by Olsson and Yetman. And four minutes later Pontus Petterström secured the important win for Linköping with the 5-2 goal.

HV71 - Luleå 3-4

Luleå remained in the lead of Elitserien after winning on away ice in Jönköping. The end of the game was dramatic. Jesse Joensuu made it 2-3 with 1:54 left to play. Luleå got a penalty but Simon Hjalmarsson made it 2-4 with 1:02 left on the empty net. But HV71 didn't give up and Juuka Voutilainen scored his second goal of the game with 32 seconds left. But Luleå managed to ride out the storm and won. Notable is that Kamil Piros assisted on HV71's all games.

Skellefteå - Timrå 6-0

In the only game played on Monday Skellefteå won their first game after losing four games in a row. Three two goals scorers Jimmie Ericsson, Erik Forssell and Bud Holloway made the final score 6-0, four of the goals scored on power play. Timrå had 84 penalty minutes to compare with Skellefteå's six. Timrås is rotating their three goalies right now and Aleksis Ahlqvist seems to be worst of them right now, conceding eleven goals in two games.
