EHC Biel in playoffs despite loss against Davos
26 Feb 2012 | Dennis Mende
After several months the playoff fight between Biel and Genève was decided on the last matchday in favour of the EHC. Servette now in play-downs.
EHC Biel - HC Davos 1:4Biel had the better position prior to the last matchday of the NLA's regular season and this was enough as wether they nor Servette earned a single point. The home side had the better start against Davos and opened the score already in the seventh minute through Gaetan Haas. Later in the period Petr Taticek coudl tie the game for the guests and early in the second Reto von Arx even turned the game around for the HCD although a win would have had no meaning for them. In the last Dino Wieser and Petr Sykora decided the match so that Biel depended on the ZSC Lions's performance against Genève.
ZSC Lions - Genève-Servette HC 3:0 Genève had lost their home game the day before despite a three-goal lead and now had to win against the ZSC Lions and get two more points than Biel in the other game. Despite the Biel loss against Davos, Genève couldn't improve their position in the table to the so important eighth place anymore. In the 10th minute Ambühl brought Zürich in front and this result should stay for a long time. When Servette risked everything Bärtschi and Kenins decided the game in favour of the ZSC Lions.
EV Zug - HC Lugano 0:1Lugano defended their sixth place with an away win against regular season champion EV Zug. In a game with few chances Sebastien Reuille scored the game-winner in the 46th minute as his goal was the only one of the match. Lugano goalie Benjamin Conz earned his sixth shutout this season with 28 saves. He was the first goalie in two and a half years who denied Zug a goal in their own stadium.
SC Bern - HC Ambrì-Piotta 1:4Prior to the playdowns Ambrì-Piotta gave a good impression in Bern. After a goalless first period, the second should become decisive for the guests. Gregory Hofmann and twice Paolo Duca had scored for Ambrì. Early in the third Byron Ritchie had cut the lead to two but Zdenek Kutlak was the one to score the final 4-1 in the 56th.
Kloten Flyers - Fribourg-Gottéron 3:2Both teams started with a lot of attacks in the game and Kloten did get a fast two-goal lead after Michael Liniger and Duvie Westcott had scored in the first six minutes. Also in the sixth came the goal by Fribourg attacker Julien Sprunger. With his goal in the 35th Simon Gamache send the game into overtime. After the additional five minutes didn't find a winner, Kloten had more luck in the shootout to get the extra point.
SCL Tigers - Rapperswil-Jona Lakers 1:3Rapperswil decided a close game between two teams which go to the playdowns for themselves. Andreas Camenzind had opened the score for the guests in the eight minute but already six minutes later Simon Moser tied the game. Around "half time" Reto Suri again earned the lead for the Lakers and this time they should keep it. With one second left in the regular time Loic Burkhalter even made it 3-1 for the bottom club.
