The Kölner Haie extend their winning streak to three in a row this week; Ingolstadt now league leaders
ERC Ingolstadt - EHC München 5:3In a close game Ingolstadt beats München to become new league leaders. In an even first period the hosts were the luckier side by scoring in power play through Christoph Gawlik with 21 seconds left on the clock. In the second Ingolstadt could transform their efforts into goals so that Luciano Aquino and Stephan Retzer did get a comfortable lead for them. When Ulrich Maurer cut the lead for München at least a bit of hope returned to the guests but later in the period again Aquino did get the three-goal lead back for the home side. At the beginning of the third it was again Aquino to score a "hat trick" for his team. Although München scored in the same minute through Christian Wichert, their race to catch up came too late. With a sixth player on the ice Mike Kompon only cut the lead another time for München which missed a big chance to get back into the playoff spots.
Eisbären Berlin - DEG Metro Stars 2:5Düsseldorf used their chance to get into the top 6 of the DEL table by winning against the now second placed Eisbären Berlin. In a game where both teams showed that they wanted the three points, Darin Olver opend the score for Berlin after only 1:46. Just six minutes later Ben Gordon tied the match in a power play situation. In the middle period Düsseldorf did mmore to create opportunities and was rewarded by the lead through Tyler Beechey. This result should stay for a long time until the fans in the O2 World saw a great ending phase of the match. First Tyson Mulock scored the equalizer for the hosts with 5:45 to go and then the Metro Stars were deadly effective. Within a 51 second span Patrick Reimer, Andrew Hedlund and Connor James - the last one into the empty net - made everything clear.
Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg - Nürnberg Ice Tigers 3:1Wolfsburg earned their home win with a solid performance to now be third in the DEL table. In a first period where the hosts were clearly the better side with 15 to 4 shots John Laliberte brought them in front after 17 minutes. Early in the second Vincenz Mayer extended the lead but Nürnberg gave the answer through Dusan Frosch. In the third chances were barely seen on both ends of the ice and so Norm Milley had the honour to score the game-winner into the empty net with 15 seconds left on the clock.
Iserlohn Roosters - Krefeld Pinguine 5:2Iserlohn made an important step towards the pre-playoffs by dedeating their direct rivals Krefeld Pinguine at home. Although Krefeld had a good start into the match and a two-goal lead in the first through Duncan Milroy and Richard Pavlikovsky, Iserlohn had not yet given up and instead came back with two goals in the middle period through Michael Wolf and Michael Hackert. Early in the third it was Robert Hock who turned the game around completely for the home side in a man advantage. The Penguins tried a lot but instead of scoring themselves they received another one when Colton Fretter almost decided the game six minutes before the end of the period. With 67 seconds left to play Jeff Giuliano's empty netter destroyed all Krefeld hopes for a comeback. The Penguins now are out of the playoff spots and have to fear for their qualification.
Augsburger Panther - Hamburg Freezers 5:2Important win for Augsburg in their fight to make the playoffs. Mario Valery-Trabucco brought the Panthers in front in the eighth minute, followed by the equalizer through Patrick Traverse in the 13th. Then came the show of Greg Moore who scored a "hat trick" within 12 minutes of the first and secon period to decide the match for Augsburg. Although Danish international Jesper Jensen cut the lead to two early in the third, Hamburg should not find itself in a position to bring the host's lead in danger anymore. Instead Robert Brown scored the final goal of the game in a 5 on 3 for the Panthers.
Adler Mannheim - Kölner Haie 2:5They were almost dead at the begin of the week but three-point home wins against Berlin and Straubing gave Cologne a lot of self-confidence back. Against another top-6 team - the Adler Mannheim - the Sharks made it three in a row. After a goalless first period Mannheim went in front in the 25th through Ronny Arendt but in the same minute Sharks captain John Tripp already tied the match. In an even period Matt Pettinger even turned the result around in power play. The third saw only one team attacking - Mannheim - but Cologne was more than precise in their efforts. First again John Tripp and then Moritz Müller in power play made it 1-4 after 50 minutes. Lehoux cut the lead to two in a period with 18 to 3 shots on goal for the Eagles but in the 59th Gogulla decided the match with an empty-netter. Cologne has now earned 9 points in 4 days and is 10th with two points more than followers Krefeld Pinguine.
