The Hannover Scorpions ended a four month long losing streak in home games; Cologne continues race to catch up; Wolfsburg still with chancs to win regular season

 
 
 
 
Hamburg Freezers - ERC Ingolstadt 7:4

The hosts from Hamburg gained three points to regain the fifth place in the DEL standings while Ingolstadt lost the first place.

The match started with a goal by Ingolstadt despite being outshot in the first period 8-17. In the 15th minute it was Jared Ross who scored in a power play. In an even middle period fans had to wait long for another goal but then they saw four in less than three minutes. First Alexander Polaczek and Thomas Oppenheimer turned the game around for Hamburg in an eight second span of the 36th, then again Ross in a power play tied the match just a minute later. With 81 seconds left in the second Jerome Flaake get the lead back to Hamburg. In the third goals again came fast. First Thomas Greilinger scored another equalizier in a man advantage for the guests who had a good power play by using three of five chances, then Garrett Festerling brought the Freezers back in front, followed by Derek Hahn's 4-4. Still only in the fourth minute of the third Thomas Dolak scored another one for Hamburg. This one turned out to become the game winner as only Hamburg continued to score. Jerome Flaake with his second of the day and Brett Engelhardt into the empty net decided the game in its ending phase.

DEG Metro Stars - Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg 2:5

With their home loss Düsseldorf lost the fifth place to Hamburg while Wolfsburg came as close as two points to the regular season title after Ingolstadt was defeated by the Freezers.

The game a slow start but in the 18th minute a double by the guests from Wolfsburg through current DEL top scorer Norm Milley and John Laliberte within 40 seconds shocked the Metro Stars. In the first minute of the middle period Sebastian Furchner even could extend the lead. Only then did Düsseldorf react and in the 27th Tyler Beechey was the first player of the hosts to appear on the scoreboard. A 5 ond 3 power play at the end of the second period did get the three-goal lead back to the Grizzly Adams when Kai Hospelt pulled the trigger. In the middle of the third David Laliberté made everything clear for the guests from Lower Saxony and the goal by Daniel Kreutzer with two and a half minutes left on the clock came far too late.

Straubing Tigers - Augsburger Panther 1:2

By losing the Bavarian derby at home against Augsburg, the Straubing Tigers missed the chance to get back into the top 6 of the DEL table. In the first period the hosts were the more active team and were rewarded for their efforts by the goal of Laurent Meunier after only three minutes. Early in the second Sergio Somma tied the match and from this point on an even game developed. With seven minutes left on the clock in the third period Greg Moore scored the game winner for the Panthers who now have themselves chances to get into the top 6 with only two games left in the regular season. Once again Panthers goalie Tyler Weiman who made 34 saves was a key factor in their game.

Kölner Haie - Iserlohn Roosters 2:1

With three consecutive wins this week Cologne re-entered the pre-playoff spots. With another win against their direct competitors from Iserlohn they brought five points between themselves and their closest followers Krefeld Pinguine. in the first period Johan Akerman opened the score for the Sharks in power play, followed by a beautfiul goal through Matt Pettinger in the second. With only 37 seconds left on the clock in the middle period Michael Hackert cut the lead for the Roosters, who had more opportunities in the last but Sharks goalie Danny aus den Birken who made 33 saves didn't allow another one to enter his net. On the other side also Sébastien Caron did a good job by saving 34 shots on goal for Iserlohn.

EHC München - Eisbären Berlin 2:4

A week ago Munich was in a good position to reach at least the pre-playoffs but then came Cologne's 12 point run within six days. After losing at home against the now again league leaders Eisbären Berlin, the EHC fell back six points behind the pre-playoff spots with two games left. In a close game Danish international Mads Christensen opened the score for the guests after only 2:22 had been played. In the middle of the second André Rankel increased the lead, which was cut later in this period by Ulrich Maurer. In the last period two goals by TJ Mulock brought the decision in favour of Berlin while Ulrich Maurer with his second goal of the day had brought hope back to the Munich fans in the middle of the Mulock goals.

Krefeld Pinguine - Adler Mannheim 1:2

After their home loss against Mannheim, the Krefeld Pinguine have almost no chances left to reach the playoffs by having five points less than 10th placed Cologne. In the first period Ken Megowan had opened the score for Mannheim, but around "half time" Roland Verwey used a power play to tie the match. At the end of the period another power play brought Mannheim back in front when Christopher Lee stood at the right place. The small lead was enough for the guests who now are three points behind the league leaders, as Krefeld couldn't score another time despite having 14 shots on goal in the last 20 minutes.

Hannover Scorpions - Nürnberg Ice Tigers 3:1

In the game between the two bottom clubs of the DEL history was made. Hannover earned its first home win sicnce 30 october after having lost 15 consecutive games on their own ice. In the 13th minute Chris Herperger brought the Scorpions in front in a 5-on-3 power play despite Nürnberg being the more active team. After only 64 seconds had been played in the middle period Nürnberg finally got the equalizer through Dusan Frosch but in a period with few opportunities on both sides no other goal came. Instead it was Hannover that decided the game late in the third through goals by Stephan Daschner and André Reiß.
