EV Zug and ZSC Lions one game from the NLA semis

ZSC Lions finished 7th in the regular season of Swiss Nationalliga A but are after today’s 2-1 win in a 3-0 lead over the league runner-up HC Davos in the quarter finals. EV Zug beat EHC Biel in overtime and is also one game from the next round.

 
 
 
 
EV Zug - EHC Biel 5-4 (OT)
Andy Wozniewski scored the winner for Zug at 4:42 of the overtime to take the home team and regular season winner to a 3-0 lead in the quarter final against Biel. But it looked for a long time like Bile would get their first win of the series. After three goals in the middle period (Ahren Spylo x 2 and Eric Beaudoin) Biel got a 4-3 lead that lasted almost to the end. At 59:20 Björn Christen tied the game for Zug. Zug had taken an early 2-0 leads on goals by Glen Metropolit and Fabian Sutter but Alain Mieville replied a minute later for Biel. Glen Metropolit scored again at 15:18 but the score turned to an away lead in the second period.

HC Davos - ZSC Lions 1-2
ZSC Lions gets another win to take a surprising 3-0 lead over Davos. Thibaut Monnet and Jeff Tambellini scored in the second period to give the guests a 2-0 lead. The only goal for the home team was scored with just 67 seconds remaining by Petr Taticek.

Fribourg - HC Lugano 2-4
Just like the first two, also the third game of this series ended with an away win. Lugano won 4-2 to take a 2-1 lead in the series. Brady Murray opened the scoring for Lugano after only one minute of play. With two goals, by Simon Gamache and Dmitry Afanasenkov, in the opening of the middle period Fribourg took the lead. Jaroslav Bednar tied it at 31:56 and 29 seconds later Lugano regained the lead after a goal by Stefan Ulmer. Julien Vauclair made it 4-2 4 seconds before the end.

Kloten Flyers - SC Bern 3-0
Kloten Flyers took its first win of the series with tonight’s 3-0 win. Ronald Rüeger earned the shutout. Victor Stancescu scored the first two goals. 1-0 at 4:27 and 2-0 at 47:44. Felicien Du Bois made it 3-0 in the last minute.

Genève – Lakers 4-3
In the relegation series Genève got it’s first win against Lakers after two losses. Roland Gerber scored twice and Petr Vampola and Dan Fritsche a goal each. Derrick Walser, Brandon Reid and Reto Suri scored for Lakers.

SCL Tigers - Ambri-Piotta
Just like in the first game SCL Tigers won 4-3 in overtime at home. Tigers now leads the relegation series 3-0. Paul Di Pietro scored the winner at 63:48. Martin Stettler, Claudio Neff and Kurtis McLean had scored for the home team in regulation. Julian Walker scored twice for Ambri-Piotta and Daniele Grassi opened the scoring for the guests.
