Ak Bars Kazan won first time in the series against Traktor after standing 3-on-5 near 5 minutes; Avangard Omsk returned the home ice advantage after beating Metallurg Mg on the road.
Metallurg Mg 1-3 AvangardRussian WJC champion Nikita Pivtsakin scored twice and helped Avangard to make a comeback. The game started with good speed. At 08:22 Dmitry Obukhov came to the Avangard zone and snapped the puck through Karri Ramo’s legs. Two minutes later Roman Cervenka motored behind the net and
made a pass to Nikita Pivtsakin who with the second shot tied the game. In the second period Avangard grabbed a game lead and outshot Metallurg Mg 14-7. At 25:28 Nikita Pivtsakin fired from the blue line under the crossbar to give Avangard a lead. Pivtsakin in this game scored 2 goals as in 110 games in KHL before it. Avangard closed the game with 3 minutes to play when Alexei Kalyuzhny dished a pass from the board to Anton Kuryanov who was alone at crease and closed the game 3-1.
Ak Bars 2-1 OT TraktorAk Bars came home after two losses in Chelyabinsk. With the first minutes of play the home team tried to give all their efforts to win tonight. But first goal was scored by visitors in the second period. Defenseman Vadim Khomitsky stopped Yevgeny Kuznetsov who earned a penalty shot and successfully converted it to 0-1 for Traktor. Minute later Ak Bars tied the game. Danis Zaripov made a pass to Yevgeny Skachkov who added the puck into the net in power-play. End of the period was a very difficult for Ak Bars. At 36:02 forward Alexei Tereshchenko got 5+20 penalty for traumatized Traktor forward Jan Bulis who celebrated today 34th birthday. 30 second later another Kazan player Denis Kulyash got game-penalty for charging. Traktor had 4:30 minutes 5-on-3 power-play chance but couldn’t create any danger in front of Petri Vehanen’s net. Ak Bars lost two key players and kept the game to the overtime. Defenseman Yevgeny Katichev got 2 minute penalty in the overtime for interference. In 30 seconds Danis Zaripov made a pass to Niko Kapanen who led Ak Bars to a first win in this series.
