All but one favourite did win their opening games in the quarterfinals also on Wednesday
Playoff quarterfinals: Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg - Straubing Tigers 1:2The hosts were the far more active team but that alone is often not a guarantee to get points and so it was yesterday evening. After an even goalless first period, the Grizzly Adams took the initiative but the result was not the desired one as Calvin Elfring used a power play opportunity to bring his colours in front in the 34th minute. Despite outshoting the opponent 14 to 7 in the middle period, Wolfsburg had to see how Carsen Germyn even extended the guests' lead with half a minute to go in the second. In the third the spectators did see even more pressure by the home side which resulted in a 5 on 3 power play for Wolfsburg. Once they had this opportunity they pulled out their goalie for another attacker and with the now 6 on 3 they were finally succesful and John Laliberte cut distances in the 50th minute. Depsite this boost they couldn't score another time and Straubing was the lucky winner. Best player of the match was Straubing goalie Barry Brust who faced 42 shots on goal and made 41 saves.

Adler Mannehim - Hamburg Freezers 4:0 It was not the expected top game of the day if you look at the result but on the ice the balances were pretty even - only goals were just awarded to one side. In the first period the Freezers did more for the match but couldn't score and so it was Ronny Arendt who brought Mannheim in Front only 50 seconds after the begin of the second period. 9 minutes later Christoph Ullmann extended this lead and Hamburg should not find an answer to these goals. Instead Yannick Lehoux decided the match with an early third period score and Ken Megowan used a 5 on 3 power play with four minutes to go in the third to make it a heavy package for the guests.
Mannheim leads 1-0 in the series
ERC Ingolstadt - DEG Metro Stars 5:3It was the close game as expected by fans and media with a lot of ups and downs for both teams. Düsseldorf had the better start with an early first period goal by Jeff Ulmer but until the end of the first 20 minutes a power play goal by Jared Ross and a goal by Derek Hahn during a delayed penalty turned the game around completely. In the 27th Thomas Greilinger found a way to get the puck into the net but still the home fans couldn't feel to save as two goals by Tyler Beechey - one of them in a man advantage - tied the game until the end of the second period. In the third especially the Metro Stars were looking for the decisive goal but instead Christoph Gawlik get the lead back to his ERC Ingolstadt with 2:13 left on the clock. Eleven seconds before the end Joe Motzko's empty netter destroyed any hope left on the Metro Stars Bench.
