Avangard 3-2OT Metallurg Mg

Igor Volkov’s OT winner led Avangard to a fourth straight win in the series and to the conference final. In fact it didn’t start so bad for the away team. They scored the first goal faster than their opponents. Yevgeny Biryukov fired from the blue line and beat Karri Ramo at 13:26. At the end of the period Anton Kuryanov re-directed the puck after Alexei Kalyuzhny’s shot from the boards. In the third period Avangard used a rare power-play chance when Denis Khlystov visited the penalty box for slashing. Martin Skoula found an open Roman Cervenka who with his 9th playoff goal gave his team the lead. KHL veteran Sergei Fedorov added his word to Gagarin Cup 2012 race. With 39 seconds to play in the game he used a pass from Sergei Mozyakin and Maxim Sushinsky to score a goal of life for Metallurg and turned the game to overtime. Only 3:50 where over when Igor Volkov went to the Metallurg zone and fired and added the puck into net after a play on the rebound. Avangard became the first team which reached the conference final this season.

Traktor 1-2OT Ak Bars

The teams played 108 minutes and 54 seconds before Danis Zaripov’s OT goal cut Traktor's lead in the series to 3-2. Ak Bars' situation was critical before this game. They knew they can't allow themselves to lose another game if they wanted to get to the conference final and so they did. The first goal happened only in the end of the second period when forward Kirill Petrov came past Deron Quint and beat Michael Garnett in front of the net for the 0-1 in favour of Ak Bars. Quint answered after 7 minutes at a nice breakaway where he added the puck into the net after Anton Glinkin’s pass to the crease. Then overtime started. Teams played 2 full overtimes, and in the middle of the third Danis Zaripov stopped the game with a nice wrist shot under the crossbar. Now the series will be continued in Kazan but Traktor still leads 3-2.
