All three winning teams did let their opponents no chance at all in game 2 of the quarterfinals
Hamburg Freezers - Adler Mannheim 1:8 Already in game 1 Hamburg was beaten heavily 0-4. Now in front of their own fans everything became even worse for them ! Again they were close to their opponents regarding shots on goal but only the guests used their chances - and then plenty of them. Already after 4:30 it was an two-goal lead for Mannheim when Christoph Ullmann was succesful twice. Early in the middle period Ullmann made his hattrick perfect with his second power play goal of the night. Still in the first few minutes of period number two Nikolai Goc made the result even more emberassing for the hosts. Hamburg now did a lot to get themselves on the scoreboard but only Serge Aubin found the net in the 37th. In the last minute of the period Marcus King destroyed any hope that might have created by the consolidation goal for the Freezers. In the last 20 minutes Adam Mitchell in power play, Yannic Seidenberg and Marc El-Sayed made it an almost historical 8-1 away win for the Eagles.
Mannheim leads 2-0 in the series
Straubing Tigers - Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg 7:0 Game 1 of the series was very close and ended 2-1 for Straubing. At home the Bavarians did leave no doubts that they were the ones to win the match. The key factor for their success was their power play - usually a speciality of Wolfsburg - where they used 4 of their 9 opportunities. In the first period Wolfsburg did get three stupid penalties and all led to goals for Straubing. When Christopher Fischer and Robbie Bina were in the penalty box it was French international Laurent Meunier who opened the score for Straubing in a 5 on 3 situation in the eighth minute. Just 50 seconds later Karl Stewart extended the lead in the same power play - off course now with only one player more on the ice. In a period where the Tigers were absolutely dominating with 25 to 7 shots on goal the third came when Dustin Whitecotton scored in the 15th in a delayed penalty after Colin Beardsmore received two minutes for a check into the boards. In the middle period the dominance of the home side continued and Sandro Schöneberger, Carsen German (in power play) and again Karl Stewart decided the game. Early in the third Bruno St. Jacques added another goal to write history as it was the highest ever loss in the DEL for the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg.
Straubing leads 2-0 in the series
DEG Metro Stars - ERC Ingolstadt 5:1Düsseldorf did get their revenge for the close loss two days earlier in Ingolstadt. After only three minutes Derek Dinger had brought the Metro Stars in front but then Ingolstadt took over the initiative and Düsseldorf's goalie had a lot to do to keep the lead of his team. Early in the second Adam Courchaine extended the lead. At the end of the middle period penalties against Ingolstadt player Joe Motzko and Chris Heid decided the game as Düsseldorf used the following power play to score twice through Daniel Kreutzer and Jeff Ulmer. Especially goal number four for Düsseldorf was quite lucky as it came with just a second to go in the period. After only 1:39 of the third period Patrick Reimer added another power play goal to the joy of the home fans. Ingolstadt only managed to get a consolidation goal with five minutes left to play through Canadian attacker Derek Hahn.
Interesting fact: For Düsseldorf 19 year old goalie Felix Bick made his DEL debut when Robert Goepfert had to leave the ice with a back injury after 33 minutes. In his 27 minutes between the posts he saved 17 of the 18 shots he faced.
Series tied 1-1
