Poland won the IIHF World Women's Championship Division 2 Group B played in Korea.
SEOUL-- The Polish women’s National Team in only their second season of international play will get a promotion. They recently won the Division II-Pool B tournament in Seoul, Korea. Next season they will get relegated up to Division II- Pool A. The other National Teams of Pool ‘B’ were from Belgium, Spain, Iceland, South Africa and host Korea.
Poland swept five games at the Mok-Dong Arena with only light attendance. Crowds didn’t matter because the action was fast and intense on the ice. Poland got the gold medal over contenders Spain and Korea.
Poland got great goaltending from Malgorzata Burda and Agata Kosinska. Net minding was the difference for the gold medal. Another differentiation was the clutch scoring of Karolina Pozniewska, 20 (picture). Pozniewska led all scorers with 13 points (9 goals, 4 assists) to get the points title.
Polish head coach Marek Kozyra highlighted Izabela Malinowski and Monika Suchanek for good defensive play. He said after the tournament, “Everyone kept the slot cleared out in front and we weren’t hurt by rebounds.”
Magdalena Szynal had a hat-trick in Poland’s 7-2 win over Iceland. So Jung Shin of Korea got the best goalie award for the tournament.
The Korean Ice Hockey Association hosted an instructional coach’s symposium during the tourney for youth outreach.
