EHC Linz has won its second Austrian championship since 2003 by beating EC KAC in 5 games
EHC Liwest Black Wings Linz - EC KAC 3-1 (0:0, 2:1, 1:0) EHC Linz had the chance to win their second ever Austrian title at home and did so by beating Klagenfurt 3-1. In the first period goalies Alex Westlund and Andy Chiodo did a great job and kept the puck away from their goals. At the begin of the second it was Mike Oulette who used a pass from Murphy in a power play to get his team in front in the 24th when Linz had a 4 on 1 break due to a terrible line change mistake of Klagenfurt. Five minutes later Hisey made a long pass to the blueline where he found Justin Keller whose shot into the left bottom corner made it 2-0. Now the EC KAC became far more agressive but an mazing save by Alex Westlund and the goal post kept them away from scoring - until the very last minute of the middle period where Kirisits tried it from a sharp angle and did get the puck past Westlund into the left top corner - honestly a clear mistake of the otherwise great LInz goalie. In the last period Johannes Reichel had the chance to equalize for Klagenfurt but he missed the top right corner only by a few centimetres. At the end it was Baumgartner who had the honour to close the season in Austria with an empty net goal two seconds before the end of the third period.
Linz wins the series 4-1
