In game 1 of the NLA finals Zürich lost for the first time after two playoff sweeps
Playoff finals:
SC Bern - ZSC Lions 4:2In a quite first period the fans had to wait until the very last minute when Jean-Pierre Dumont opened the score for Bern after a nice cross pass from the right side where he only had to get the puck into the empty net. In the 32nd Reto Schäppi tied the match when his shot was deflected by the crossbar and the goal post into the net - absolutely no chance for a save. Six minutes later again Dumont was the one to get the SCB lead back. He tried it with a backhander twice - the first was blocked by a defender, the second went past the goalie for the 2-1. The guests from Zürich kept the game close but when the home side had a 5 on 3 power play they didn't let it out and Philipp Furrer fired the puck into the net with a hard shot from a center position. Just few minutes later the result became even more uncomfortable for the guests as Martin Plüss deflected a Furrer shot into the left corner - a beautiful goal. With less than five minutes to go Andreas Ambühl's backhander after Steve McCarthy's shot was blocked by the goalie was not more than a bit of consolidation.
Bern leads 1-0 in the series
Relegation:
HC Ambrì-Piotta - SC Langenthal 3:1On Tuesday also the relegation battle between Ambrì-Piotta which lost the NLA playouts and NLB champions SC Langenthal started. Already after seven minutes Paolo Duca scored the first goal for the home side. Eric Landry had fired the puck from the blue line and out of the crowd in front of the guest's goalie Duca was the first one to get the puck. At the begin of the middle period Inti Pestoni sent the puck over the goal line into the empty net from a short distance after the first try via backhander by Julian Walker was stopped. Still Langenthal didn't give up and so Marc Leuenberger cut distances with a well-placed shot into the left bottom corner after a won face off of his team. The match stayed close until Walker with his second of the night into the empty net made it 3-1.
For Ambrì-Piotta it was the first home win since 23 December 2011!
