After losing the opening game 9-2 to USA and remembering last year's overtime loss in the final, Canada got their revenge in the final of the World Women's Championship. Caroline Ouelette scored the winner at 61:50.
Meghan Agosta tied the game for Canada with 2:38 remaining of the third period and then assisted Caroline Ouelette to the over-time winner when Canada beat USA 5-4 in the final of the 2012 World Women's Championship.
The goal scorer gave credit to Tessa Bonhomme for the goal: "Tessa Bonhomme was in front of the goalie and I screamed to Meghan for
the puck. Yes, I can take credit for scoring, but Tessa made it happen by going
to the net and taking everyone with her", Ouelette says to IIHF.com.
Canada was in a 3-1 lead after half the game with goals by Hayley Wickenheiser, Jayna Hefford and Caroline Ouelette, but USA got back to tie the game at 3 after two periods. Gigi Marvin scored her second of the game at 42:57 to take USA to the lead for the first time, but with the late powerplay goal Meghan Agosta took the game to overtime.
In the bronze medal game Switzerland beat Finland 6-2 to win its first medal ever in the World Women's Championship. Florence Schelling in the Swiss net made 50 saves. Katrin Nabholz, Sara Benz, Julia Marty, Kathrin Lehmann, Anja Stiefel and Evelina Raselli scored the Swiss goals.
