Kings refuse to lose away
Kings took their 10th consecutive away win in this year's playoffs when they beat Devils 2-1 in OT.
Second Stanley Cup final was more open and more entertaining game than the first one. There were plenty of scoring chances for both teams but superb goalies, Brodeur and Quick, made it pretty difficult to score. It was a tight game which could have ended both ways. Both teams had their momentums but Kings was the one who could use it and did it again in OT.
Kings opened the scoring when their top defenceman Drew Doughty made a great individual effort bringing puck up into the Devils' zone and firing a good wristshot. Allthough the shot came from behind of his own defender Bryce Salvador, Brodeur should have taken it. Kings one goal lead holded all the way until to the beginning of the third period when Devils' great fourth line Bernier-Carter-Gionta hard work brought them another goal, this time Ryan Carter tipping in Marek Zidlicky's blue line shot.
Overtime was dominated by Kings (shots 11-3 for Kings). However it took almost 14 minutes until they could score. Jeff Carter fired a shot from the right side, took his own rebound, circled around the Devils zone and fired finally a wrist shot past Brodeur.
Kings have now won all its 10 away games in this years playoffs and four of them in OT. Nine times out of eleven a team which opened finals with two road wins have won the cup. Also during last three years one team has started the finals with two wins but only Chicago made it to the cup.
