Elitserien fires video replay judge
22 Nov 2010 | Henrik Lundqvist
The main topic in Swedish ice hockey yesterday and today has been a disallowed goal. Everybody except for the video replay judge saw that the goal should stand.
In the game between
AIK and
Skellefteå (
4-2), Skellefteå's
Joakim Lindström
scored a goal when AIK had a 2-0 lead. The referee Sören Persson
couldn't see if the puck had crossed the goal line so he called the
video replay judge. On the TV pictures you could clearly see that the puck crossed the line but the video judge still disallowed the goal. He is now fired from his duties.
"It is very regrettable and we apologize to all involved for the incident", says the league's referee supervisor Mikael Ahlström in a statement.
AIK won the game 4-2. The newcomer, currently in fourth place, has been the league's big surprised this season.
