Loob wants more North Americans in Swedish hockey

Håkan Loob wants to remove that limit to increase the level of Elitserien and to give the Swedish teams better chances of success in European Trophy.
"Today, we only use two non-EU players", says the former Calgary Flames player. "In Germany, they may play with nine North Americans. I want to abolish the limit and we have a discussion of this in the elite committee. What if NHL teams could only have two Swedes. Unthinkable, of course", says Loob.
Färjestad of Karlstad is an established top team in Sweden and the goal for the upcoming season is "the double", which means winning both European Trophy and the Elitserien playoffs.
For next season Färjestad will have two North American players. Defenseman
Chris Lee who played the last two seasons in DEL and the forward
Jack Connolly who played with University of Minnesota-Duluth last year and was named the best American college player.
Färjestad enters the European Trophy nest weekend with home games against ZSC Lions on Friday and EV Zug on Saturday. Elitserien starts September 13.
