Day three sees Finland and Sweden both score eight, whilst a third period rally by Canada saves them from Slovak scare.

Group A

Finland 8:6 USA
Not a game for the netminders here, as the teams combined for 14 goals in this offensive shootout. The teams traded goals for the most part, although Finland led at 3:1 before the USA came back to level the score at 5:5 going into the final period. However, Finland had too much for the United States to handle in the third frame, as the Finns scored three times to their opponents one to seal the three points. Remarkably, the teams combined for only 53 shots on goal, highlighting what a nightmare of a game it was for the netminders. The pick of the bunch for the Finns was hatrick hero Felix Westermarck, who scored his sides first, fourth and seventh goal, whilst Aleksi Mustonen and Mika Ilvonen both tallied three points. Adam Erne's brace for the USA was not enough for his side to get the victory. Juuse Saros had the game's best save percentage out of the three netminders that appeared, but he only managed to save 79% of the shots he faced.

Czech Republic 3:2 Russia
In the shock result of the day, the Czech Republic moved to the top of the group following a 3:2 over Russia. Ondrej Kase gave the Czechs the lead in the opening period, but the Russians came back late in the frame, as Vladislav Lysenko and Sergei Tolchinsky both scored to give the Russians a one goal lead. Five minutes into the second period, David Kampf scored, but the Czechs also made a netminding change, as Stepan Lukes left the crease after conceding two goals on eight shots. In came Rene Svoboda, who shone in relief, making all 19 saves asked of him. Late in the second period, the Czechs got the all important go ahead goal as Petr Ceslik lit the lamp to give the Czech Republic a lead that they would not relinquish. The result sees the Czechs finish level on points with Finland on six, but with Finland having the better head to head record.

1. Finland 6 points, 2. Czech Republic 6 points, 3. Russia 5 points, 4. USA 1 point

Group B

Sweden 8:4 Switzerland
Switzerland had a chance to sneak into second place following their win against Slovakia if they beat the Swedes, but the heavily fancied Swedish team made it two wins from two after their opening day setback, firing an impressive eight goals past Switzerland. It wasn't all one way traffic though, as the Swiss jumped out to a 2:0 lead in the first period to the shock of the Swedish players. However, a four goal second period swung the game in Sweden's favour. Sweden had seven different goal scorers in this game, highlighting their strength in depth, with Lucas Wallmark the only player to bag a brace for the Swedes. Kevin Fiala scored twice for Switzerland, who were never truly out of the game until the third period.

Slovakia 2:3 Canada
A minute separated what would have been the shock of the tournament to what became a foregone conclusion, as it took a captain's goal by Sam Reinhart with 53 seconds left on the clock to lift tournament favourites Canada over the Slovak hosts. Canada were even 2:0 at the start of the period to Slovakia, as Kristián Horvát and Martin Ambroz both were on target for Slovakia. It took until the 57th minute for Canada to beat Maros Mikolas in the Slovak net. After that, the house of cards came tumbling down, as a minute later Josh Morrissey scored to level the game, before Reinhart scored in the final minute to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Standings: 1. Canada 9 points, 2. Sweden 6 points, 3. Switzerland 3 points, 4, Slovakia 0 points
