25 Aug 2012 | Dennis Mende
7 games on Saturday involving teams of West and East Division. DIF only away team without earning a single point.
West Division Swiss side EV Zug earned the first spot in their division after a great last-minute comeback against HIFK from Finland. With ten minutes to go the game was tied 2-2 before the guests scored two power play goals within 78 seconds. When the everything looked over for Zug they pulled out their goalie and Corsin Casutt scored with 2:34 left in PP. When the hosts were in another man advantage they again played without their goalie and Reto Suri scored the equalizer at 59:06. In the shootout Zug rewarded themselves even with the extrapoint. They now lead the group with 8 points while HIFK has to win almost all matches left.
Finnish Jokerit made a huge step towards a top-2 spot in West Division by defeating the Swiss champions ZSC Lions in regulation. Esa Lindell and Ossi Väänänen paved the way for the away success with two goals in the middle period before Patrik Bärtschi got the hosts on the scoreboard. Semir Ben-Amor scored the game winner at 50:24. Later Reto Schäppi only could cut the lead to 2-3 but not avoid the home loss for Zürich. With this loss Zürich is almost out of competition.
In front of 6,458 spectators in the SAP Arena the home side Adler Mannheim showed another disappointing ET performance. They were already down 0-4 against Swedish top team Färjestads BK before Yannic Seidenberg Matthias Placta made the result look a bit more friendly for the Germans in the very last minute of play. Mannheim stays last in the group while FBK keep their chances for Red Bull Salute more than alive.
East DivisionTappara Tampere defended the first place in the East Division by defeating SC Bern in overtime. The Swiss had a 2-0 and 3-1 lead but a strong third period of the guests let the match get into overtime. There it was Teemu Aalto who used a 5 on 3 PP at 63:14 to earn the extra point for Tappara. Bern now is last in their group.
Nothing to win in the Czech Republic for Djurgårdens IF. In Pardubice they received another huge package just 24 hours after a 2-6 in Liberec. For HC Pardubice today's 5-1 win against DIF was already their third consecutive three-point match in the European Trophy. In the first ten minutes Pardubice earned a three-goal lead that they never gave up anymore. Timmy Pettersson scored in the middle period for the Swedes but Robert Kousal made it 4-1 within minutes. In the end Tomas Nosek even scored the fifth for Pardubice which is now second in the East.
Fribourg-Gottéron is out of competition but at least they got their first win in their 5th ET appearance this season. The initial lead by TPS from Turku through Tero Koskiranta of the 18th minute stood for a long time before Romain Loeffel tied the match at 51:40. In the overtime Loeffel gave the assists for the game winner by Pavel Rosa.
Brynäs had a very important away win in Liberec against a direct competitor. Antonin Dusek opened the score for the White Tigers before Dennis Persson tied the match - still in the first period. When Johan Harju scored the decisive goal at 58:02 there was not enough time left for a reaction by the Czechs who are now in serious danger of missing Red Bull Salute.
