Spartak wins Moscow derby against CSKA

Spartak goalie Sergei Borisov stopped all 35 shots he faced to earn the first shutout of the young KHL season. Earlier today Amur beat Atlant 3-1 in their home opener.
A total of 7,100 fans came to see the home opener of Amur Khabarovsk against the 2011 Gagarin Cup finalists Atlant Mytischy. The hosts had a superb start with a goal after just 21 seconds (!!!) scored by Dmitry Tarasov. With their very first attack about the right wing, they created enough danger to get the guest defense out of their positions and in the end Tarasov used a rebound from the short distance after Nikita Davydov between the Atlant posts failed to get the puck away twice. At 11:30 Atlant's Swedish new arrival Andreas Engqvist had a break away but he was stopped by Alexei Murygin. Later in the period Nikolai Lemtyugov get the equalizer for Atlant by firing the puck into the right bottom corner from his position on the left wing - it did look like the shot was stoppable. Around "half time" it was Evgeny Korotkov who got the lead back to Amur in a fast counter attack after receiving a nice pass from Dmitry Shitkov in front of the net. With exactly one minute left in regulation Oleg Piganovich who was left alone added a powerful wrist shot for the solid 3-1 win of the Khabarovsk side.
In Moscow the derby between highly anticipated CSKA and Spartak promised to be exciting. It was a tight match but with very low scoring. The only goal of the game was scored by Stanislav Zhmakin at 22:59. In an even match Spartak was the better side in the middle period where they allowed only three shots on goal and that was just enough for them to grab all three points. For the last 40 seconds of play Slovakian goalie Rastislav Stana left the CSKA net but also with the additional attacker there was nothing to do for them against a strong Sergei Borisov who had a shutout with 35 saves.
