Miroslav Satan was decisive in Slovan's win against Spartak Moscow with a shootout goal and an assist. Michael Garnett, goalie of Traktor Chelyabinsk, gets his second shutout in his second appearance.
Amur Khabarovsk ended a four-game home series succesfully with a 3-2 shootout win over Torpedo Nizhni Novgorod. Alexander Osipov was the one to put the hosts in front in a power play situation at 11:41 but just two minutes later Mikhail Varnakov transformed a penalty shot caused by Igor Ozhiganov. Early in the second period Vyacheslav Litovchenko earned the lead back to Amur which stood for a long time before Pyotr Schastlivy sent the game to overtime with his strike at 56:15. In the shootout Varnakov gained the lead for Torpedo but Jakub Petruzalek and Mika Pyorala turned it around to give amur the extra point. With 7 points Amur stays first in the Chernyshyov Division.
Lokomotiv Yaroslavl stays unbeaten on their return to KHL after last year's plane tragedy. They won their away game against Metallurg Novokuznetsk, giving proof of their comeback qualities. They were down 0-2 and 2-3 before Danil Apalkov and Niklas Hagman gained the lead for Lokomotiv for the first time in this game. At 52:40 Alexander Mereskin scored the 4-4 so that the match went into overtime. This one stayed goalless before Niklas Hagman as the last and only scorer in the shootout won the extra point for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl.
Another game that was decided in a shootout was the one between Sibir Novosibirsk and Atlant Moscow Oblast. With the begin of the middle period the home side took over the iniative and earned a two-goal lead through Arturs Kulda and Nikita Osipov until 21:05. Just a couple of minutes later Nikita Tochitsky already cut the lead to the half before Alexei Mikhnov scored the late equalizer at 57:27. Once the shootout had come the audience had to wait quite a long time. When Alexander Rybakov won the match for Atlant it was already the 18th attempt overall.
A late comeback let Barys Astana steal a point from last year's Gagarin Cup finalists Avangard Omsk. Neither a 2-0 nor a 3-1 lead were enough for Avangard to keep all three points at home. Instead Dustin Boyd and Brandon Bochenski tied the game until 57:33. Hero for the hosts became Tomas Zaborsky who ended overtime at 63:15 with the 4-3. It was hist third scoring point of the day after a goal and an assist earlier. For Barys it was the first point of the season.
Twelve minutes were enough for Salavat Yulayev Ufa to get rid of Belarussian side Dinamo Minsk. It was a 1-1 after the first period before five consecutive strieks - two of them by Nikita Filatov - brought the early decision. In the same period Tim Stapleton (with his second of the day) and Zbynek Irgl could only cut the lead a little bit. For Ufa it was the first win in their third game at home this season.
A strong third period let Traktor Chelyabinsk get their second consecutive win by defeating Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg away 3-0. Evgeny Kuznetsov and Andrei Popov scored a double until 55:49. When Christopher Holt left the Avtomobilist goal for an additional attacker, Maxim Yakutsenya even put another one into the empty net. For Traktor's Michael Garnett it was already his second shutout of the current KHL campaign - in two games.
In a close match the fans had to wait until the third period when Oskar Osala opened the score for home side Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk at 41:46. Minutes later Severstal Cherepovets' Vadim Berdnikov let the game start over again. In the end Pyotr Khokhryakov earned the game-winner for Neftekhmik in overtime.
A totally changed Vityaz Chekhov showed another great away performance - this time against Ak Bars Kazan - but this time it wasn't rewarded. Kirill Petrov and Alexei Tereshchenko made it 2-0 for the hosts, Denis Sergeyev only could cut the lead at 35:43 and Ak Bars kept the close result in their favour.
Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk was close to a surprise during their away game against favourites SKA St. Petersburg. They had an incredible start with three goals until 4:46. Due to another terrible work by the Yugra defense the game was tied after 20 minutes already. At 24:14 Marek Troncinsky did get the lead back to Yugra but before the second intermission it was 4-4 again. The third period saw SKA running away with three consecutive goals and Vitaly Sitnikov could get the result only as close as 7-5 in favour of SKA. With 12 goals against already in only two games, there is still a lot of hard work left for the Yugra coaching staff.
CSKA beat Latvian side Dinamo Riga 2-1 at home. Martins Karsums had opened the score for the guests already at 5:24 but shortly before and after the second intermission CSKA turned the result around thanks to another good performance by their star forward Alexander Radulov. First he gave an assist to the equalizer through Alexander Guskov at 39:41 before he did the 2-1 himself at 40:22. Four minutes later Evgeny Ryasensky missed a penalty shot so that CSKA had to fear for another Latvian goal until the end of the full 60 minutes of play.
With only 31 seconds left in the first period Jakub Klepis scored the only goal of the match after an assist by Marcel Hossa to give Lev Prague its second win in KHL. Ukranian side Donbass Donetsk never found an answer so that Lev goalie Tomas Pöpperle gained his first shutout of the season.
Slovan Bratislava can also win in KHL. Miroslav Satan was the man of the match for the Slovaks in front of 10,055 spectators as he not only gave an assist to Libor Hudacek who at 57:18 tied the initial guest lead through Andrei Shefer, but he also transformed the decisive penalty shot in the shootout against Spartak Moscow. Slovan made one spot good in Bobrov Division and is now ahead of Dinamo Riga.
