Metallurg Magnitogorsk beats Dynamo Moscow in close match

Just one KHL game was played on Wednesday but this one was a classic. Between the two super powers of the past RSL the hosts from Magnitogorsk beat Dynamo 2-0.
Paul Maurice, long-time head coach in the NHL for the Carolina Hurricanes, could celebrate his frist ever win in the Russian-based KHL together with his team, Metallurg Magnitogorsk. After two away losses with the lack of creating scoring chances against Traktor Chelyabinsk (0-2) and Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg (1-3), Metallurg showed great moral by defeating current Gagarin Cup holders Dynamo Moscow who before had an almost perfect start with 8 of 9 possible points.
Sergei Mozyakin used the first power play at 13:59 to get Metallurg in front. 90 seconds before Dynamo's Alexei Tsvetkov was sent into the penalty box for hooking. The match was pretty even. As both teams had difficulties to get the second goal of the day and Dynamo had to do something to avoid the first loss of the season, they pulled out their goalie Alexander Yeryomenko at 57:55 in a 4-on-4 situation. Instead of forcing the equalizer with the additional attacker Metallurg's Justin Hodgman had no problems to get the puck into the wide open net just five seconds later. Still Dynamo didn't want to give up the game completely so that Yeryomenko again left his net but in the end the 2-0 was the final result. Finnish goalie Ari Ahonen earned his first shutout this season, winning three very important points for Magnitogorsk which now is 5th in Kharlamov Division.
