Twelve days after the attack on HIFK’s Ville Peltonen by a Jokerit player in the European Trophy the teams of the Finnish capital faced each other again in the first round of SM-Liiga.
Almost two weeks ago Jokerit's goon Semir Ben-Amor jumped on Finnish ice hockey icon Ville Peltonen from behind and knocked him out. Many other incidents in the same game led to a total of 71 SM-Liiga games suspensions for players and coaches of both teams.
Today the teams met again in the SM-Liiga opener and of course Ville Peltonen played a big role again. Peltonen assisted to Iiro Pakarinen’s 1-0 for HIFK and scored 5-3 and 7-3 in the 7-3 win. Roope Talaja also scored twice for HIFK.
"We went in to play as usual and not to be careful in the rink. Our attitude was fantastic and that gave us the victory", says Peltonen to Hufvudstadsbladet.
Markku Flinck, Olavi Vauhkonen, Roberts Jekimovs and Per Savilahti-Nagander scored for SaiPa when they got a 4-2 win away to Kärpät.
Arsi Piispanen scored the deciding goal when HPK beat TPS 3-2 in an over-time game. TPS had the lead twice but HPK came back both times.
Pelicans needed a shoot-out to defeat Blues 6-5 at home. Radek Smolenak scored three goals for Pelicans but Janne Tavi got the winner. Teemu Ramstedt scored three for Blues.
