Lugano surprises Zug
Swedish star Linus Omark and his teammates with a tough start.
After a great participation in the 2012 European Trophy, Zug wanted to start the league like contenders to the title. But Lugano had another idea for this match. The Ticino's team entered the game with intention to play toe-to-toe with Zug. Even if the first occasion was for Zug's Reto Suri missing a penalty shot at 1:11 in the first period. That was it. After that Lugano took care of the game and the Swiss goalie Claudio Zurkirchen have made two good saves, stopping Julien Vauclair and Hnat Domenichelli to score in the first period.
It was in power-play that Lugano gets its first goal at minute 27. After a good job by Heikkinen, Domenichelli found a way to score.
In the third period Zug wanted to score, but Lugano controlled the game and it was in shorthand that Brett McLean made the second for Lugano at minute 53. The third one for Lugano was made by Daniel Steiner with am empty-net goal. 3-nothing, well deserved victory by a team that had showed a nice collective effort in the 60 minutes. The line Domenichelli-Metropolit-Rüfenacht was particularly good today. In Zug’s side Linus Omark with a tough start (10 minutes for Misconduct) now knows that Swiss league is not that easy and he will have to be much better in the future. In other side good start to Finnish defenseman Ilkka Heikkinen with two assists.
