Early in the second Calvin Elfring used a power play for the first Straubing strike but even before the second intermission it was a 5-1 lead for Mannheim. Second in the table are the Kölner Haie who won 8 of possible 9 points so far after beating an opponent who was always very uncomfortable for them in past years - the Grizzly Adams. In Wolfsburg the Sharks won 4-0 thanks to goals by John Tripp, Philip Gogulla and twice Charlie Stephens - one in a penalty shot, one shorthanded. Guest goalie Danny aus den Birken earned his first shutout of the season. Wolfsburg had a horrible start with 0 points after three games and already 13 goals against.
With a 2-0 succes over EHC München the Augsburger Panther climbed to the third spot of the DEL table. Sergio Somma and Robert Brown made everything until "half time" of the match. Augsburg now has 6 out of 6 points, München only gots one point after their first two games.
More than 6,000 spectators came to Königpalast to see the debut of NHL defender Christian Ehrhoff for local Krefeld Pinguine. Already at 1:39 Roland Verwey had opened the score for the hosts but Jerome Flaake (1G, 2A) and David Wolf (2G, 1A) turned the result around for the visitors Hamburg Freezers with three points each.
Another team that already can count with 6 points are the Nürnberg Ice Tigers. On home ice they defeated favourites ERC Ingolstadt with 3-1. Connor James and Christoph Gawlik had scored for their sides in the first period but the fans had to wait until 58:58 when Patrick Reimer scored the very late game winner for the hosts. With four seconds left on the clock Ryan Bayda with an empty-netter blew away any doubts over the winner.
Rob Zepp stopped all 18 shots he faced to not only earn his first shutout of the season but also to give Eisbären Berlin their first win. Against Düsseldorf the DEL record champion was succesful with strikes by Laurin Braun and Florian Busch. Berlin (10th) and Düsseldorf (11th) changed spots in the league standings.
