Many high-scoring games today in the league. Evgeny Malkin adds three assists to Magnitogorsk walkover in Nizhnekamsk. Ak Bars Kazan without mercy against Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg.
Amur Khabarovsk - Vityaz Chekhov 3-2 Amur climbed the third spot in Chernyshyov Division after beating Vityaz at home. In an exciting game Czech forward Jakub Petruzalek scored the game winner for the hosts at 57:46. Before he had also scored the initial 1-0 after 10 minutes. Dmitry Shitikov had made it 2-1 around "half time" but twice Vityaz came back through Alexander Korolyuk and Anton Korolyov (penalty shot).
Metallurg Novokuznetsk - Dinamo Minsk 5-4Belarussian side Dinamo Minsk wasn't able to stop their fourth consecutive loss. In Novokuznetsk they showed great moral but in the end they always had to run after the Metallurg lead. The hosts were in front 2-0, 3-1, 4-2 and 5-3 but every time Dinamo cut the lead to just one. When Kevin Lalande left his net for an additional attacker Tim Stapleton made it 5-4 with just 46 seconds left on the clock. Afterwards Lalande again was pulled out of the goal but it was already too late to change the result further. For Metallurg it was only the second three-point win so far in nine games.
Sibir Novosibirsk - Severstal Cherepovets 3-0Surprise team Sibir Novosibirsk keeps beating their rivals. Against Severstal they extended their series to six wins in a row. Imports Arturs Kulda and Kristian Kudroc made it 2-0 after just 4:22. At the end of the second period Vyacheslav Solodukhin even extended the lead to three. Jeff Glass gained a shutout for Sibir with spectacular 41 saves.
Salavat Yulayev Ufa - Traktor Chelyabinsk 1-4The home side from Ufa had serious trouble with the special teams today. In the top match against Traktor they received three shorthanded goals and one power play strike. Talented Evgeny Kuznetsov did his part in the away win with 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists). The other goals for Traktor were scored by Jan Bulis, Konstantin Panov and Petri Kontiola. Salavat had tied the game at 13:40 through Alexander Pankov.
Ak Bars Kazan - Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg 6-1Ak Bars stays on top of the KHL table with now 21 points. With a superb 6-1 over Avtomobilist they already earned their seventh win this season in nine games. The guests never were a real threat and scored their only goal through Rastislav Spirko who did the 1-3 at 47:27. Denis Abdullin was the man of the match for Ak Bars with two goals and an assist.
CSKA Moscow - Avangard Omsk 1-0 The Radulov brothers once more were decisive in a win of CSKA. Igor scored the only goal of the game at 28:09 after getting an assist by his younger brother Alexander. With these three points CSKA gained leadership in Tarasov Division ahead of Atlant Moscow Oblast. Avangard stays last in Chernyshyov Division and isn't even averaging one point per game.
Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk - Metallurg Magnitogorsk 2-7The lockout transfers are paying off for Magnitka. In Nizhnekamsk they always found an immediate reaction whenever the hosts cut the lead - so it was after the 1-2 and the 2-3. Nikolai Kulemin (Toronto Maple Leafs) had one goal, Evgeny Malkin (Pittsburgh Penguins) was succesful with three assists - making it four for him already in three games and also Sergei Gonchar made one assist. For the team of Canadian head coach Paul Maurice this was only the third win of the season but since the arrival of their NHL stars they have always won at least one point.
Lev Prague - Yugra Khanty-Mansyisk 4-0The expectations couldn't have been more different. Lev Prague has a tremendous season as league newcomers while Yugra fails to proof KHL level. Lev goalie Tomas Pöpperle continues to be a key factor for their success. Against Yugra he already earned the fourth (!!!) shutout in only nine games. Canadian forward Erik Christensen earned a hat trick until the begin of the second period. The other Lev goal was scored by Tomas Surovy.
Slovan Bratislava - Barys Astana 4-2 Slovakian side Slovan Bratislava had their third consecutive home win with the exact same result - 4:2. Against Barys Astana from Kazakhstan Michel Miklik and Marko Dano pathed the way for the home win in the first period. When Nikolai Antropov cut the lead in power play right after the first intermission it took Slovan only a minute to get the two-goal lead back through Michal Vondrka. Dustin Boyd brought hope back to the guests at 44:45. Now the game could have changed suddenly as Ivan Datelinka received an interference penalty. Instead of the equalizer for Barys, it was Mario Bliznak who decided the match in favour of Slovan at 46:14 with a short handed goal.
