TPS Turku fires coach in SM-Liiga
TPS Turku became the second club in this season's SM-liiga who fires its coach. Head coach Pekka Virta and his assistant Mika Strömberg became unemployed after Monday nights European Trophy game.
TPS is the last team in SM-liiga table after 13 games and has only 11 points. That is surtenly not how team planned season to start and that is also the reason why something had to be done. "We are satisfied how Virta and Strömberg worked with our young and promising players, but results are not what we expected. We had to act now before crisis gets any deeper", said TPS chairman of the board Tomi Aalto.
Tuesday morning TPS announced that new coach will be Juha Pajuoja. He has been fired already twice in SM-liiga; by Ilves (2011) and Ässät (2006). His assistants will be former TPS players Miika Elomo and Jani Kiviharju.
