Only one away win in 10 KHL matches on Wednesday
In Omsk happend what had to happen regarding the trend of the two teams that faced each other. Home side Avangard had a tremendous winning streak in the last couple of weeks while guests Spartak Moscow is based at the bottom of their division. Though Spartak could tie a 0-2 deficit at the end of the middle period, Avangard earned three consecutive strikes to make everything clear in the last 20 minutes. In the very last second of regulation Anatoly Nikontsev could only cut the Avangard lead to 5-3.
Evgeny Malkin earned a goal (into the empty net) and an assist (in the first strike by Ever Lisin) in Metallurg Magnitogorsk's 3-1 win against Atlant Moscow Oblast. Around "half time" Jonas Andersson had scored the equalizer for Atlant but they could never create enough pressure to get the Magntika victory in danger.
Czech newcomers Lev Prague have nothing they can offer to keep up with the Russians at the moment. In Ufa they led through Juraj Mikus but even before the end of the first period it was a 3-1 for the hosts. In the middle period Jakub Klepis cut the lead for Lev but despite being the better side in the last 20 minutes and playing several minutes without a goalie. Instead Alexander Svitov decided the match at 49:03 with the 4-2. For Lev it was the 7th loss in the last 8 matches. At the moment they are completely destroying the good work from the season's start.
Lots of goals are a guarantee these days when Torpedo Nizhni Novgorod is involved in a game but not always in their favor. Today a double by Martin Thörnberg gave them a 2-0 away lead until 18:17 but a 9 minute span in the second period let hosts Traktor Chelyabinsk turnd the result around. In the last third of the match Traktor even extended their lead to a solid 6-3 win.
Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg with a surprise point against Tarasov Division leaders Lokomotiv Yaroslavl but it could have been more. After 20 minutes the hosts were in front with 2-0 after goals by Denis Sokolov and Fyodor Malykhin but until the second intermission the result was turned around by Loko. At least Stanislav Zhmakin tied the match for Avto at 50:29. With just a second to go in overtime Dmitry Kulikov gained the extra point for Yaroslavl in power play.
Barys Astana ended an extremly succesful home series with a more than clear 6-1 win against Ukrainians Donbass Donetsk despite a 0-1 deficit during the first period. For the Kazakhs it was their third consecutive home win with 16-2 goals in favour of them.
In their away match against Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk Latvian side Dinamo Riga wasn't able to move away from the last position in Bobrov Division - and that despite a three-goal lead in a crazy second period. Withing just 7 minutes Yugra had fought back and made it the final result of 4-3. For the Riga the season is really disappointing so far as they have lost two thirds of their matches.
Severstal Cherepovets gave Slovan Bratislava a huge 6-0 defeat. The Slovakian KHL newcomers never found into the game. Due to the lack of creating goal scoring opportunities Severstal goalie Vasily Koshechkin even earned a shutout.
Jarkko Immonen and Danis Zaripov with two goals each were decisive in today's Ak Bars Kazan witn against CSKA Moscow. In between the guests from the capital had tied a 0-2 deficit through Mikhail Grabovsky and Alexander Radulov.
A full Minsk-Arena was the place where Belarussian side Dinamo Minsk beat Vityaz Chekhov today. Alexander Korlyuk had earned the guest lead at 20:32 before Janne Niskala and twice Geoff Patt made it 3-1 for Dinamo that gave up the last place in Tarasov Division to Spartak Moscow.
