Wednesday 21 November

Sheffield Steelers V Dundee Stars 5:4 After Overtime.
The Dundee Stars took to the ice for the first time since the Cardiff Devils thrashed them 9:1 on the weekend in a much closer encounter with the Sheffield Steelers, with Overtime needed to settle the score.

Dundee got off to a dream start, league points leader Sami Ryhanen set up Matt Baxter to take the early lead with just 34 seconds played, followed quickly by Tristan Harper less than 3 minutes later to give the Stars a 2:0 lead early on.

It took Sheffield until midway through the second to respond, Colin Shields found the net for the 12th time this season to pull the game back to one, and then 56 seconds later, Steven Goertzen leveled the game on the powerplay.
Coming out for the third period with the scores tied, both teams desperatley searched for the go ahead goal, and at 43.23 Captain Jonathan Phillips put the Steelers ahead.
Ashley Tait then found himself in the box on a high sticking call, which allowed Pat Bowen to level the game once more, then as both Mark Thomas and Jeff Legue served penalties, Sami Ryhanen added to his points total on the powerplay to give the Stars a very late lead.
With less than two minutes to play, Tylor Michel leveled the game sending it to overtime.

The game was eventually won by a Shawn Limpright penalty shot with midway through the Overtime period to give the Steelers a 5:4 victory.

Friday 23 November

Dundee Stars V Belfast Giants 2:5
The Dundee Stars were back in action on Friday, this time they welcomed the league leading Belfast Giants to the Dundee Ice Arena.

Like the game against Sheffield on wednesday, the Stars took the early lead, Sami Ryhanen added his 14th goal of the year to give the Stars the early lead at home.
Sheffield responded through Mark Garside at 13.40 who scored his first goal of the season.

The second period was more of a one sided game, The Giants grabbed two early goals through Andrew Fournier at 1.37 and then through Daryll Lloyd at 5.31 to give the visitors a 3:1 lead.
Jeff Mason then added a fourth at 11.26 and there really was no way back for Dundee.
Mike Wirll managed to convert on a powerplay chance at 17.18, but it would be the only powerplay goal the Stars got through 7 opportunities.

In the third period, Craig Peacock grabbed the final goal of the game to give the league leading Belfast Giants a 5:2 lead.

Saturday 24 November

Braehead Clan V Sheffield Steelers 2:7
The Sheffield Steelers managed to defeat the Braehead Clan for their fourth straight league win in the first of their two games in Scotland this weekend.

NHLer Tom Sestito grabbed the first goal of the game at 7.16, quickly doubled by Shawn Limpright at 10.04 to give the Steelers a 2:0 lead early on.
Rod Sarich made it a third goal from 8 shots for the Steelers at 17.46 and they led at the break at 3:0.

Early in the second, Jade Galbraith converted on the powerplay with a strike at 32 seconds but Tom Sestito grabbed his second of the game at 27.43.
Colin Shields then closed out the period giving Sheffield a 5:1 lead going into the final 20 minutes of play.

Sheffield continued to find the net on their few chances as Jeff Legue made it 6:1 at 45.19.
NHLer Drew Miller pulled one back for Braehead, who converted 2 of their 43 shots on the night, But the night wasn't over until Philadelphia Flyers forward grabbed his third for the Steelers at 53.03 to give the Steelers a 7:2 victory.

Coventry Blaze V Dundee Stars 6:0
Coventry completely outclassed and outshot the visiting Dundee Stars in a convincing win ahead of their much anticipated Sunday night clash with the Cardiff Devils.

Ross Venus grabbed the only goal of the opening 20 minutes at 7.29, but the second period told a different tale.

Venus grabbed his second goal at 27.54, almost immediately followed by Brad Leeb at 28.00 to make it a 3 goal game.
Coventry continued their onslaught through Mike Schutte  65 seconds later to give the homeside a 4:0 lead, three goals in 71 seconds.

The Blaze closed the period with a tally from Gerome Giudice at 37.29, to give the Blaze a 5:0 lead.

Shea Guthrie then finished the scoring at 43.25 to give the Coventry Blaze a more than convincing 6:0 victory against a struggling Dundee Stars side.

Fife Flyers V Hull Stingrays 3:2 (Penalty shootout)
The Flyers and The Stingrays kept a close game despite the Flyers outshooting Hull 33 to 23.

Hull came out of the first period with the lead through Dominic Osman at 11.13, but the scores were tied after 40 minutes of play.

The Flyers struck first to level the game at one through Kris Hogg on the powerplay at 25.05, and then Steven McAlpine gave the comeside the lead at 31.46.
However as Hull took to the powerplay, Jereme Tendler leveled the scores at 38.43.

A goaless third period and 5 minute overtime period meant the game had to go to a shootout.
Hull continued their tradition of losing in the shootout, failing to convert any of their shots, and with Jason Pitton beating Ben Bowns with the Flyers first shot, Fife took the 2 points in a 3:2 victory.

Nottingham Panthers V Cardiff Devils 5:0
Nottingham continued their impressive home form as they demolished the Cardiff Devils who were riding high after coming back from 3:0 down to the Belfast Giants in week 11.

A goaless and evenly shot first period came to an end, but the Devils would meet their demise on the penalty kill in the second.

Bruce Graham grabbed the first of three powerplay goals for the Panthers at 22.53, followed by Pat Galivan at 26.50, again on the powerplay.
The rout wasn't over as Matt Myers scored an even strength goal at 29.42 to make it 3:0.

With the clock winding down in the second, Pat Galivan grabbed his second powerplay goal to make it a 4:0 game going into the final period.

The Devils had little to respond with, firing 8 shots at Craig Kowalski in each period which allowed Matt Myers to net his second of the game and give the Panthers a 5:0 victory.

Belfast Giants V Edinburgh Capitals 9:1
The top side met the Bottom side, and that was reflected in the scoreline.

Belfast took their time to take the lead, they waited until 13.39 for Sam Roberts to put the league leaders infront. Gregory Stewart then doubled the lead at 15.04 to take it to the break with the Giants ahead by 2.

Again the Giants took their time to get on the board on the second, Noah Clarke found the net on the powerplay at 29.29, quickly followed by Sam Roberts second on the powerplay again.
Belfast continued their dominance through Mark Garside at 32.21, and then with 12 seconds left in the period, Jeff Mason made it 6:0

With the win pretty much sealed, Belfast gave Stephen Murphy a rest and gave Andrew Dickson his first taste of action this year.
Craig Peacock found the net for the Giants seventh at 41.01, and Noah Clarke grabbed his second of the game at 45.50.
With time running down, Darryl Lloyd joined in on the scoring at 53.44.
Peter Holecko did manage to pull one goal back for the Capitals, but the Giants took the victory 9:1.

Sunday 25 November

Hull Stingrays V Braehead Clan 6:4
The final day of action saw the Braehead Clan travel south to face the Hull Stingrays.
Hull got off to a dream start, Tom Squires opened the scoring with just 11 seconds played.
Matt Haywood would level the gave at 12.05, and just 30 seconds later, Brock McPherson gave Braehead the lead midway through the first period. Before the period was out, Sylvain Cloutier levelled the game with a powerplay strike at 19.08

Coming out for the second period it was Hull who got the early goal again, this time through Dominic Osman at 4.01 but again Braehead replied to tie the game. Jade Galbraith scored his 14th of the season to tie the game at 3.
Again with time winding down in the period, Hull pulled away through Kurtis Dulle to take the game into the third period with Hull leading 4:3.

Jason Silverthorn extended to the Stingrays lead at 41.58 but Braehead were quick to respond, less than 20 seconds later, Adam Walker pulled the Clan back to within one.

However, a second powerplay goal, this time from Jereme Tendler was enough to give the home team Hull Stingrays a 6:4 win against the Braehead Clan.

Cardiff Devils V Coventry Blaze 5:2
The last time these sides met there were over 200 penalty minutes and a collective 16 games suspension over 2 Cardiff players and Cardiff bench coach, and in a near sold out Cardiff Bay Arena, the Devils took the victory.

A goalless opening 20 minutes allowed for a fast paced second.
NHLer Paul Bissonnette opened the scoring with his sixth goal for the Devils at 30.19, quickly followed by young Brit Adam Harding for his first of the year at 31.23.
Coventry responded through Greg Leeb at 36.10 to pull the game back to within one, but before the period was out, Devils Captain Stuart MacRae found the back of the net to give Cardiff a 3:1 lead heading into the third period.

A very physical, but clean third period lead to a lot of clear chances but both Phil Osaer in the Cardiff goal and Peter Hirsch in the Blaze goal were more than capable of pulling off some important saves.
But at 55.58, Cardiff capitalised on a Coventry too many men call to make it 4:1 through Stuart MacRaes 13th goal of the year.

Brad Leeb joined his brother Greg in Blaze goals with a nice unassisted effort at 17.19, but with Peter Hirsch on the bench for the extra attacker, Chris Blight sealed the game with an easy shot into the open goal to give Cardiff a 5:2 victory.

Edinburgh Capitals V Sheffield Steelers 2:3
After getting demolished by the league leaders 9:1 the previous night, Edinburgh gave Sheffield a run for their money as Martin Cingel netted the only goal of the first period to give Edinburgh the shock lead at the end of 20 minutes.

Jeff Legue levelled the game at 25.03, but again Edinburgh went into the break with the lead again as Michal Dobron scored a late powerplay goal.

However the dream was crushed as Capitals Neil Hay was ejected for a 5 + game kneeing call which gave Sheffield the opportunity to level the game through Shawn Limpright at 48.55 and then still on the powerplay Steven Goertzen grabbed the game winning goal at 50.33.
