Cologne and Berlin just three points behind the DEL leaders

While Cologne defeated Ingolstadt on Tuesday, Berlin even beat league leaders Mannheim in the direct duel one day later.

 
 
 
 
Second-placed Kölner Haie came as close as to only two points towards top team Adler Mannheim after winning their home match a gainst ERC Ingolstadt with 4-1 on Tuesday. Andreas Holmqvist had opened the score for the hosts at 27:38 in power play but only three minutes later Joe Motzko tied the match for the guests from Bavaria, also with the men advantage. Still in the second period Cologne was able to restore the lead when Chris Minard used another power play at 36:57. In the last 20 minutes Ingolstadt only came close to the Cologne goal here and then and the hosts played with a lot of patience. This was rewarded with another two goals - another power play strike by Chris Minard and one by John Tripp - to make it 4-1 within 22 seconds of the 57th minute.

On Wednesday the Eisbären Berlin cut the deficit towards first-placed Mannheim to just five points. In front of 13,600 spectators in the O2 World a double through Darin Olver and Matt Foy brought the home side in front at the begin of the second period. Just minutes later Matthias Plachta cut the lead to the half before Berlin's lockout star Daniel Brière used a 5 on 3 power play for the 3-1 lead at 31:47. In the last period Matt Fory and James Arniel even amde it 5-2 before Christoph Ullman scored another consolidation goal for the guests from Mannheim.

After the two games in the mid of the week Mannheim now has 44 points, followed by Cologne with 42 points and then comes Berlin with 39 points.
