All 14 DEL teams played on Friday
It was a day to forget for the team from Cologne that visited Hamburg this Friday. The local Freezers were already in front with two goals until 03:18 when Kevin Schmidt and David Wolf had opened the score for them. At the end of the period a double through Julian Jakobsen and Thomas Dolak made it even a four-goal advantage. That was also the point when the Sharks changed their goalies - Youri Ziffzer came in for Danny aus den Birken who let through every third shot on goal. Garrett Festerling, Mathieu Roy and Druval Westcott nevertheless further increased the lead. At least Moritz Müller earned the consolation goal for the guests at 57:57 but this won't make the Sharks too happy as they lost their second place to Hamburg.
Cologne's archrivals Düsseldorfer EG had a not much better day and were defeated cleraly 5-0 by ERC Ingolstadt. Thomas Greilinger was the man of the match for the hosts from Bavaria with a hat trick. The other two goals were scored by John Laliberte and Patrick Hager. Ian Gordon in the Ingolstadt net cleared all the 22 shots he faced and earned a shutout.
For Eisbären Berlin away matches have more of "horror trips" this season. In Iserlohn they suffered their fourth consecutive loss on the road but at least they earned a point. Darin Olver, Mads Christensen and TJ Mullock turned around the initial two-goal lead by Iserlohn that was scored by Robert Hock and Michael Wolf. Only at 59:31 the Roosters scored the equalizer while being shorthanded through Matt Tomassoni. In the following overtime Robert Hock was successful in power play at 62:29 to give Iserlohn the extra point.
Also league leaders Adler Mannheim were beaten. In Straubing they lacked offensive power and the local Tigers used a power play for the lead through Grant Lewis at 27:09. With just one second left on the ice French international Laurent Meunier decided the match with an empty netter. Straubing goalie Jason Bacashihua who had 28 saves earned a shutout. Mannheim now has lost the last three away matches.
EHC München goalie Jochen Reimer also earned a shutout but he had less to do (20 saves) in the Bavarian derby against the Nürnberg Ice Tigers. Jason Ulmer and Mike Kompon with two early goals and Ryan Kavanagh in power play around "half time" won the match for the home side.
In a high-scoring game the Krefeld Pinguine defeated guests Hannover Scorpions with 6-3. Andreas Driendl, Mark Voakes and Daniel Pietta turned around the initial Hannover lead that was scored by Christopher Herperger before Ivan Ciernik cut the lead to just one at 35:18. But before the end of the middle period Richard Pavlikovsky already extended the lead again for the Penguins. When Andreas Driendl scored the next one for Krefeld the game was pretty much decided but David Sulkovsky made it a two-goal deficit only at 55:28. The guests early risked everything by pulling out their goalie for an additional attacker. This was punished through Boris Blank who sent the puck into the empty net with just 8 seconds left in regulation.
Augsburg threw away a 3-1 lead against bottom side Wolfsburg to lose 3-4 after 60 minutes. Daryl Boyle, Stephen Werner and TJ Trevelyan scored for Augsburg while Greg Moore had tied the match for the guests from Lower Saxony in between at the begin of the third period. Matt Dzieduszycki. Aaron Brocklehurst and Sebastian Furchner with three consecutive goals, made possible the surprise win for the guests.
