Canada's Boone Jenner is suspended for the three first games of the upcoming U20 World Championship due to the hit that left Sweden's Jesper Pettersson out of the tournament.
Canada's Boone Jenner was given five minute major and a game misconduct penalty for charging after a late hit on Sweden's Jesper Pettersson in a preperation game in Helsinki between the two teams. Pettersson left the game on a stretcher and suffered a dislocated shoulder and a fractured wrist and will miss the World Juniors tournament.
In accordance with IIHF By-Law, Article 501, game misconducts, match penalties or any incidents that occur before, during or after pre-Championship exhibition games must be reported to the IIHF Disciplinary Committee for review and possible supplementary disciplinary measures.
A video review of the situation indicated that late was hit and delivered with no intention to play the puck and with Pettersson in a vulnerable position. The hit was delivered far to late and resulted in an injury for Pettersson for which Jenner is to be held accountable.
The IIHF Disciplinary Panel came to the conclusion that the hit was dangerous and unanimously decided to suspend Boone Jenner for the first three games of the U20 World Championship
