Makarov makes 41 saves when the hosts beats the Americans 2-1 in Ufa in close and entertaining game.
In what probably was the best game of the tournament so far Russia took an importan win against USA in Group B. The game was very close and it was small margins that gave Russia a 2-1 win.
Andrei Makarov made a stellar performance in goal and made 41 saves and was perhaps the hero of the day together with Vladimir Tkachyov who scored the game winning goal four minutes into the third period.
In the first period Albert Yarullin made it 1-0 on an early power play, Jacob Trouba was in the penalty box then but took some revenge later when he tied the game with was turned out to be USA's only goal of the game, also that goal scored on a power play.
"Both teams played pretty well, competed hard, and got good goaltending. We just came up a little short", Trouba told IIHF.com. As Trouba stated also USA had good goaltender in John Gibson who made several good saves on Russian counter attacks. But in the end it was Makarov that stole the show as USA failed to score even when playing six on four at the end.
Both USA and Russia are still to play Canada it what will be interesting games, but the question is if not those two teams has better goaltending than Canada, that could be a key factor.
