six teams participate from Jan 12-18
The Division 2 Group B tournament got underway today in Serbia with six teams participating, Australia, Belgium, Estonia, Iceland, South Korea, and Serbia.
While the shots and penalties were somewhat even in this game, it was Iceland that managed to edge Belgium. Sigurdarson had the lone goal in the first period which saw seven penalties. In the second Sigurdarson scored again making it 2-0 but McCann-Coppens scored for Belgium bringing them close. Thorsteinsson made it 3-1 on the powerplay for Iceland but van Egdom scored for Belgium with just over 3 minutes left. Belgium pulled the goalie but with 1 second left Ingason found the empty net for Iceland. Sigurdson had 2 goals and one assist for Iceland.
Estonia had little trouble rolling over Australia as they outshot them 51-12 and despite some powerplays Australia couldn’t muster any offence. Estonia scored 8 goals, 3 in the first, 4 in the second and one in the third. Gruznov had 2 goals and 3 assists, Taru and Ljubobratets had 2 goals and an assist each, and Kulakov had 3 assists. Dotskin, for Estonia, received a 10 minute misconduct for a check from behind in the third period.
Korea unloaded against Serbia nearly out shooting them two to one, with 37 shots to Serbia’s 19. Serbia got on the board first with a quick goal on an early powerplay from Filipovic. A few minutes later Yoon answered for Korea making it 1-1. In the second Korea got goals from Park and Shin while Serbia got a lone goal from Zwick. Shin scored early in the third to add insurance for Korea, and despite a penalty shot awarded to Serbia mid-way through the third, they were unable to mount and further offence. Lazarevic did well in the face-off circle for Serbia winning 13 of 19 attempts.
