Donbas Donets'k captures Continental Cup taking unquestionable revenge on Rouen
Last season Rouen was one of the most incredible underdog in icehockey tearing Continental Cup from super-favourite Donbas Donets'k. Ukranian, meanwhile become a powerful KHL team, wait one year to have their revenge, wrecking Dragons in decisive game in front of almost sold out home arena. French team plays at par just in the first period, when Swedish forward David Fredriksson even ties game (the first ever goal suffered by goalie Jan Laco in the tournament) after the advantage by Varlamov, very criticized last year and a key player tonight. Donbas, besides a doubtless better roster, perfectly uses power play - generously conceeded by Rouen. Probably the key moment was the 2-1 goal, scored by Tuomas Kiiskinen at 19:47 with a smart deflection on a Evgeny Dadonov shot that allows Donbas to close ahead the first period.
In the central time the three Donbas goals come all on power play to definitely sink Rouen hopes.Clay Wilson, awarded as best defender of Super Finals and captain Vaclav Nedorost were perfect orchestra leaders during superiorities.
Last period, with game decided, sees another two goals by Donbas, scored by Sergei Peretyagin and Petr Podhrasky.
When legend Sergei Bubka delivers the trophy to Nedorost and the medals, the sensation is to watching a scene with one year's delay. Now Donbas victory is unquestionable, the strongest team won.
