The Swedish quarter finals continued today with the games Brynäs-Skellefteå and MODO-Färjestad. In both cases the away team won to get a 2-0 lead in the series.
Brynäs IF - Skellefteå AIK
3 - 7 (0-2, 0-2, 3-3)
Brynäs with four defensemen missing from the line-up couldn't give Skellefteå a hard game. The away team scored twice in the first period and twice in the second. Then Joakim Lindström added 5-0 in the third period before Ryan Gunderson could score Brynäs's first goal of the playoffs. The game ended with a 7-3 win for Skellefteå. Erik Forssell scored two goals; the first and the last of the game. The Brynäs goalie Johan Holmqvist left the game injured after two periods.
MODO Hockey - Färjestads BK
3 - 4 (1-1, 2-2, 0-1)
The game between MODO and Färjestad was tied at three after two periods of play but at 51:48 Färjestad's Canadian defenseman Chris Lee scored his second goal of the game. A minute before the end Anders Bastiansen secured the away win with the 5-3 goal assisted by fellow Norwegian Marius Holtet. MODO had the lead 1-0 and 3-2 but both times Färjestad tied it within a few minutes.
"MODO has played well", says Lee to C More. "But we have been patient and played our game. We have done it well, but we are still not satisfied".
Kvalserien, the qualification series for next season's Elitserien started today. The HockeyAllsvenskan winner Leksand got a 3-1 win against Södertälje. For the Elitserien teams the qualification could have started better. Rögle lost at home to Västerås while Timrå got away with a shoot-out win against Örebro.
