Salzburg - Vienna 3:1 (Series tied at 1)
In the first semifinal game the Caps outscored the Bulls 6:2, but the guys from Mozart's city allowed only one goal at home. Justin DiBenedetto took a chance at the end to score on an empty net and seal the deal for Salzburg.
Matt Zaba had a rough start for the visitors concedeing after only two minutes into the game. Thomas Raffl and Danny Richmond set the puck up for Rob Schremp who sees the puck in the net for the lead. Young Slovene Luka Gracnar started between the pipes for KAC and did a great job. Being only 19 and playing for the most of the season must be rewarding for him. By the end of the second period Yorick Treille doubles the lead for Salzburg.
Rafael Rotter in the 49th minute accurately puts the puck behind Gracnar, but it wasn't enough for them to come back.
KAC - Linz 3:2 (Series tied at 1)
After a great start to the series, the actual champions had to admit they were defeated in Carinthia. Thomas Koch brought the lead to KAC when he snapped one behind David Leneveu on a powerplay midway through the first. Only four minutes later Linz were in the lead through Fabian Scholz and Mike Ouellette. In the second period Jamie Lundmark brings this one close, 2:2.
In the third came the first penalty for KAC, Manuel Geier was delaying the game. After not taking advantage of it, KAC finally ensures the victory two minutes prior to the end. Geier put a pass to Raphael Herburger who finds the net and brings the series to the beginning.
It's interesting how little penalties were drawn in the game. Six minutes for Linz, while only two minutes for KAC.
