KAC off with a win

The true hero of the night, KAC goalie Rene Swette, saved all 37 shots to give his team edge in EBEL Finals.
Vienna - KAC 0:1 (0-1)
Three
times these two teams met during this season in Vienna. All three times, the
Capitals were victorius to KAC outscoring them 9:3 and allowing them only 1
point. But now, when it matter the most, in the Finals, KAC snatched a victory,
in what could be a stationary war up to game 7.
At
33:14, Martin Schumnig was overly happy to see his shot go past Matt Zaba after
Raphael Herburger and Florian Iberer helped him to give the Carinthians the
lead.
The
first shot on goal was Johannes Reichel slam, thought Zaba in net was
attentive. An open battle continued throughout the first and KAC looked outstanding.
Tyler Scofield first hit the post and then John Lammers missed on a powerplay.
The
Capitals took command in the second, Andre Lakos and Jonathan Ferland missed
two big powerplay opportunities. KAC comes out strong and Tyler Spurgeon
received great pass in the slot, got the
shot on goal, but Zaba puts on a show to stop it.
Carinthians
were two man down in the third when the Caps tried to push for the tie. Marcus
Olsson missed the tip in and Ferland couldn't get to the puck in the decisive
moments.
With
Mike Siklenka in the box for the second time of the evening, Olsson strikes the
bar again. A minute and a half before the end, Caps' head coach Tommy
Samuelsson called the timeout, pulled the goalie. Nevertheless, Swette stood
strong to get the first win of the series.
KAC
successfully started the quest for Cup number 30, and will have the chance to
double the lead as early as Easter, March 31st.
