Women’s WC: Russia and Finland to semi finals

Few goals and small margins when Russia and Finland eliminated Switzerland and Germany in the quarter finals and Sweden won the first relegation game.
Finland dominated the quarter final against Germany clearly but as usual in Women hockey teams often have a problem to take advantage of their momentum. Michelle Karvinen scored unassisted at 15:27 and that became the only goal of the game when Finland won 1-0.
Russia showed that their program with pro players before the Olympics at home is starting to pay off when they beat last year's bronze medallists Switzerland 2-1. Burina gave Russia the lead but Benz tied it up on the power play. At 48:38 captain Yekaterina Smolentseva scored the game winner for Russia.
In the relegation game Sweden probably did their best game of the tournament so far but still needed shootout to beat Czech Republic. Lisa Johansson gave Sweden the lead and with a 1-0 lead and 26-10 in shots after two periods Sweden felt safe. But Sweden got penalty trouble and in the third Alena Polenska tied the game and the game went to a shootout where Emma Eliasson was the only to score. Thus Sweden won the first game in the best of three relegation round
