For the third consecutive time and the 7th time in their history - all titles came in the last 9 years - the Eisbären Berlin have won the championship of the highest German ice hockey league by defeating Kölner Haie in 4 games!
DEL playoff finals, day 4
Eisbären Berlin - Kölner Haie 4-1
After losing twice at home Kölner Haie stood under a lot of pressure before today's away match in Berlin in front of 14,200 spectators in a once more sold out O2 World. Rok Ticar was able to tie the first-period lead through Corey Locke at the start of the middle period but Julian Talbot (2) and TJ Mulock made everything clear for Berlin to win them yet another championship!
The only team before in DEL history that won three consecutive championships were the Adler Mannheim 1997-99. For Berlin it was their 50th win in the DEL against Cologne and their 10th success against them in the playoffs! Eisbären forward Constantin Braun received the award as MVP of the playoff final series!
Berlin won the series 3-1
