One of most representative Slovenian player of last decade died today at 40.
Just before to turn 40, former player Elvis Bešlagić died today in Munich, Germany, where he lived and spent almost his career outside native Slovenia.
Between 1991 and 2000 Bešlagić played 7 seasons in his native Jesenice and won three national championship titles (1992,1993,1994) before to "betray" and move to arch-rivals Olimpija Ljubljana, where he won two more domestic titles in 1995 and 1996 before signing for Iserlohner EC in Germany. In Germany he played the next 13 seasons for 11 different clubs, the last one, Freising in Bayern Regional League. This season he started as head coach of Bayern-Liga EHC Waldkraiburg, but resigned in November.
With Team Slovenia Elvis played 115 games (7 goals and 27 assists), appeared in eight world championships, two (2002 and 2003) in the Elite division. In 2012 he was accepted into the Slovenian Hockey Hall of Fame.
