For Finland's goalie Antti Raanta the game against Slovakia was his first ever in the national team. Raanta made many advanced saves, especially in the first period. He managed to make 36 saves to earn the shutout and win the game for the home team.
"It didn't matter that much to keep the clean sheet. The main thing was to get a good start of the World Championship and to give the team a victory", says the debutant Antti Raanta says to Hufvudstadsbladet.
Slovakia dominated the first period but it was Finland that managed to score. Juhamatti Aaltonen made it 1-0 at 11:28. The second goal was scored by Petri Kontiola early in the third period. Slovakia outshot Finland 36-23 but thanks to Antti Raanta the home team got away with a 2-0 won.
