Slovakia played a solid and clever game and took a 4-1 win over USA in both teams final game of the preliminary round.
USA seemed to be asleep in the beginning of the game. Especially goalie Ben Bishop made two terrible mistakes and they both resulted a goal to Slovakia. After 15 seconds Bishop tried to clear the puck behind his own goal but accidentally hit Tomas Kopecky. Puck bounced in front of the goal where Branko Radivojevic had an easy job sweep it into the goal. Only rough three minutes later Bishop allowed another easy goal when Martin Bartek's weak wristshot from a short ankle surprised Bishop. After second goal USA got it's game better and better on track and started to control the game. Led by TJ Oshie USA created also couple of very good scoring chances but Slovakian goalie Stana made couple of "heavy" saves and Slovakia escaped into the first break with two goals lead.
In the second period Slovaks controlled easily USA's attepts to get themselves on the scoreboard. During Craig Smith's 2+10 min penalty for checking to the head Rene Vydareny scored the third goal for Slovakia after very nice passing by Zaborsky and Kukumberg. At the end of the priod USA's yound defender Danny Kristos kept UA's hopes still alive with nice wristsht passed goalie Stana who was heavily screened and could hardly see the shot.
In the third period Slovakia continued safe and simple game and didn't really leave chances to team USA to get back into the game. Final hit game 1 min 24 seconds before the end when Marko Dano scored into the empty net. Backbone of the team Slovaia was their goalie Rostislav Stana.
