Franzén and Bäcklin coaches at AIK. The top scorer leaving Skellefteå for NHL?
AIK is the last club in Elitserien to confirm coaches for 2013/2014 season. No head coach has been announced but instead three coaches. Former AIK legendary player, 45 year old Rikard Franzén, Mats Bäcklin, 47, who was assistant coach in AIK's rivals Djurgården last year and another former AIK player Mats Lindgren who already was part of the coaching staff but who now will have a different role with scouting, special teams and video coaching. Franzén will have the main responsibility for building the team and roster selections while Bäcklin will be responsible for ice practice and individual development. AIK finished nine in Elitserien last year.
Skellefteå won the championship last year but has had a some what difficult silly season and lost some key players like Oscar Lindberg and Martin Sevc. Now they may also be losing their top scorer Bud Holloway who is rumoured to having offers from NHL clubs.
Frölunda has announced that they will play Skellefteå in an outdoor game on December 14. The game will be played at the football stadium Gamla Ullevi and will have a capacity on around 20,000.
Leksand is back in Elitserien and has made some interesting signings but now they also have lost two key players. Mathias Timander retires after over 1,200 games at elite level and the Austrian Michael Raffl is reported to have signed with the Philadelphia Flyers even if Leksand claims that he has a valid contract with them.
