Coach Alois Hadamczik called 67 players, included Jaromir Jagr. New Jersey star may play his fifth Olympics
Czech Republic coach Alois Hadamczik announced today the extended roster to Sochi Olympics, including 67 players, seven goaltenders, 22 defensemen and 38 forwards. The final list of 25 players have to be announced before 13 January 2014.
Hadamczik's list included six debutants - goalie Michal Neuvirth, defenders Radko Gudas and Tomáš Kundrátek and forwards Roman Horák, Ondřej Palát and Vladimír Sobotka and almost all stars playing in NHL or KHL. Just five players were picked from Czech Extraliga: Michal Barinka, Petr Zámorský, Petr Nedvěd, Romáš Rolinek and Martin Růžička.
New Jersey Devils forward Jaromir Jagr, included in the list, could become the first Czech player to appear in five Olympics. Jagr already played in Nagano 1998, Salt Lake City 2002, Turin 2006 and Vancouver 2010. Defender Tomas Kaberle will skate in his third Olympics, Patrik Elias, Martin Erat, Martin Havlat, Tomas Vokoun and Marek Zidlicky will appear for the second time.
