After a request from AHL the Swedish Hockey League has decided to send Färjestad to represent SHL in the AHL All-Star Classic game in February 2014.
The 2014 AHL All-Star game called AHL All-Star Classic will be played in St. John, Canada and will this year be played between the AHL All-Star team and Färjestad BK from Sweden. After a request by AHL to the SHL, Färjestad was selected to represent SHL.
"The selection of SHL club was made accordingly to a model within the organization. I'm very proud that SHL got this request and know that Färjestad will show that they have high international class", SHL's managing director Jörgen Lindgren said.
"Färjestad is proud and happy to be the first SHL team in this exciting challenge. It's an excellent opportunity for both us and the SHL to make contacts with international leagues and markets", Färjestad's club director and former NHL star Håkan Loob said.
The game will take place on February 12, just before the start of the Olympic Tournament. “I would like to thank Färjestad, the Swedish Hockey League and the St. John’s IceCaps for their commitment to making this very special opportunity a reality,” AHL boss David Andrews said according to theahl.com. “The city and fans of St. John’s have wholly embraced the IceCaps since our league returned to Newfoundland and Labrador, and this historic and memorable event is an excellent way for us to showcase our brightest stars to what will truly be an international audience.”
The game will be played in Mile One Centre and will be aired in both North American and Swedish TV.
